That was my exact thought as well.
Here is a site highlighting the best of re-brick-able alternate builds using 1, 2 or 3 sets. Some great builds. You do have to pay for the instructions, which is fair seeing the work they put into it. Or can just view for inspiration.

Those 3X alternate builds look wild. However, I can't say I'm ready to begin paying for instructions for alternate builds.
