If just looking at price/battery, getting the 12-pack of AAA Eneloops right now is a better deal ($1.88 each):

I see a version of this question anytime an eneloop deal comes around. The usual answer is the eneloop remains the gold standard and while the upfront cost may be slightly higher the continence and lower cost of ownership make up for it. Hope that helps Smilie

I have some Eneloops that I got over 10 years ago - they're still going strong with no signs of slowing down yet.

Don't need to. I use the Powerex C9000 charger.

Eneloops are excellent quality. Good choice if you need to stock up on rechargables.

The only rechargeable that come close to these are the old school black Amazon AAA made in Japan

I am in the slow process of swapping out all my amazon rechargeables for Enloops, because the Amazon ones suck so bad. The life span after a charge is considerable, I would estimate the Enloops lasted 3 times as long.

yeah, i have some that are that old now. there are some applications that they don't last long in (logitech harmony universal remote and thermostat) and never have but i think those applications are just better suited to alkaline batteries. other than that, no issues.

i picked up some plastic ammo cases to hold my AAA's and AA's.

Pass. Lithium cells are the future.
These don't burn and explode when damaged. Ni-MH may have less energy capacity than lithium, but they are cheaper and safer.
