I just got this deal, https://slickdeals.net/f/18904234-asus-vivobook-14-laptop-14-60hz-1080p-ips-i3-1315u-8gb-ram-128gb-ssd-200-free-shipping?sort=oldest&page=10&src=category_page#commentsHeader but wanted to post something similar to what I bought last month. The lower cpu&ssd $200 thread is full of info one of the best discussion threads on here. I edited a review that is a good summary:
The CPU is the standout component, it being a core 5 series 1 (14th gen.). It is noticeably fast with its 5 GHz Max frequency for its 2 hyper-threaded performance cores. It has a the extra ram slot for a DDR4 sodimm (3200). It should have 16gb ram but it's skyrocketed in price. Upgrade next year when prices come back down. The ssd and wifi card can be replaced. The screen is actually good being an ips panel with decent off angle viewing. It's not bright enough for sunny outdoor work but is much better than any of the other budget screens from ASUS I've seen. It has a glossy finish, so reflections can be an issue. Ports are decent with 2 type A USB at 5 Gbps, 1 type A 2.0 (for mouse and/or keyboard dongle) and 1 type c USB at 5 Gbps. It has a full size hdmi port (only 1440p not 4k?) and a headphone/mic port. This is a great value and workhorse machine for a variety of purposes.

A downvote? Someone must not know cpu's much. I got the walmart spec of this last mo that came with 16gb ram for $300 closeout. Because of current ram prices you won't find that deal now with this cpu. So many now also can't be upgraded with ram and ssd on low priced laptops. I don't want one locked to 8gb ram only.

250 nits
Right, there are so many 300nits and higher laptops under $300. Reviews have said these are better than other similar spec screens. I'll pick vivobook 14 up today and see. I looked at other current deals, things like open box, that means returned and often defective as SD comments said. Or a much lower spec n150 cpu. I have a lenovo from last years SD and it's 250nit screen is washed out in colors. Nits of brightness don't say much unless you work in full sun that few of us do. It makes no sense a laptop with a cpu that is half as fast in multi-tread gets 17upvotes : https://slickdeals.net/f/18944419-lenovo-ideapad-1-15-6-fhd-tn-ryzen-5-7520u-8gb-lpddr5-256gb-ssd-279-99?attrsrc=JFYCarousel%3APosition%3A4%7CJFYCarousel%3AType%3Athread&src=jfy_carousel
These usually not upgrade-able either. Why post a good deal if people who don't know randomly vote?

I have the i3 version. The screen is not great. Is it better in this version?

Likely not. I just looked at my vivobook with this cpu and its model 15 and not 14 so can't determine from that. Budget laptop screens go from ok to bad. They don't compare to a macbook or more expensive panels. Unfortunately they don't make it easy to find specs of NTSC or RGB color spectrum coverage. Monitors make it easier to find. When you do find it, it's normally poor 45%. I can only say some reviewers liked the screen for what they paid compared to other cheap laptops like the review I posted and edited. I wasn't super impressed with the screen on the display model of my 15 but I needed the ram and cpu more than impressive color for $300.
