These are great if you are nervous about getting your door kicked in or you have wandering toddlers who can turn a deadbolt. Only downside is having to explain how they work to your guests who struggle to figure out the mechanism

Agreed. We got them since our toddler learned how to open the front and back door. But guests do struggle lol

I guess that shows they work. If it were easy to figure them out, kids would only need to get a footstool to defeat them.

Honest question: If kids and possibly guests can't figure out how to open it and it's on your front and back doors - is it much different in concept of risk than using a double cylinder deadbolt, which is illegal to do in many places because then people can't get out during a fire?

I recently added one to prevent a wandering toddler. To a door with a pre-existing keypad-unlockable deadbolt. Last week I left through a different door, locking it behind me (muscle memory), expecting to re-enter through aforementioned keypad door. Don't make the same mistake I did .

Bought these a while back but conceived of way too many possibly even more unintended dangerous scenarios (getting locked in during a fire, locking yourself out, etc) that I decided it wasn't worth it.

I used these when I used to live in a not so great area. They are fantastic and simple and effective. Would absolutely recommend.

I installed one on my attic door/ladder. I might have watched too many horror movies as a kid...

Everyone worries about the fuse box in the basement. Due to your shrewd purchase, you're guaranteed to make it to the sequel.

I my opinion this one is easier and safer. I just installed one last week for a customer and as long as long as you leave very slight slack they open pretty easily by pulling to the side to release. For double lock key is a must, so unless left inside the lock at all times it will be much more challenging unless kept right by the door and easy to access

FYI these can be easily shimmed open. They're good for adding security to something existing, but do NOT rely on this as your only lock.

I grabbed a few of these for my doors to the garage. They are pretty solid.
