This is basically a throw away computer. I'm sure you can find a similar or better machine for less somewhere

On the used market, yes. Not sure if you can get something similar for less new currently, these laptops would cheap out on the CPU as well then.

These were a bad deal at $300 three years ago and they're a bad deal at $250 now.

Get a 7530U and not a TN panel at this price range. Get something refurbished that's better.
