They will both be the same price for the same weight during this promotion period.
I thought Kirkland's protein tasted kinda bad, and didn't mix as well. I returned the bag and never tried it again.
Edit: I just noticed you said you typically mix your protein powder with water -- I don't like ON in water, personally, so I always use milk. They recently added creamer to the Extreme Milk Chocolate formula to make it more palatable in water, but eh... YMMV on this one. Costco will refund you if you don't like it.

Ascent is the best chocolate. $40 a bag when on sale. I haven't tried their vanilla yet. Their stuff doesn't taste like a protein powder.
Kirkland is 2nd best chocolate. Very chocolatey, but it's got the typical protein powder taste.
ON Chocolate is great too, don't get me wrong. I just like the other 2 better as they are more chocolatey and more complementary in flavor for my banana, PB fit, chocolate protein shake.
ON uses a cream like flavor to dampen the protein powder taste in its mixes so the powder by itself generally tastes better than others, but it doesn't taste as good when mixed with other flavors.
ON is the best vanilla (ice cream) though hands down. I love to use it as a base for protein ice cream.
If you're going to get into protein powder, be sure to get a proper blender:

If you really want to up your game, get the ninja creamery and turn that shake into an ice cream instead. It feels so bizarre being forced to eat ice cream to hit my protein goal.

AI:
"Yes, recent investigations, especially a major one by Consumer Reports (CR), found concerning levels of lead in many popular protein powders and shakes, with plant-based options often showing higher contamination. Lead enters these products from soil and can accumulate in plant ingredients like peas, rice, and hemp, with chocolate flavors sometimes having more than vanilla. While occasional use might be fine for adults, health experts suggest regular users, especially pregnant women and children, should limit or avoid high-lead products due to chronic exposure risks, as there are currently no strict FDA limits for lead in protein powders.
To find protein powders without heavy metals, look for brands with third-party testing (like NSF Certified for Sport or Clean Label Project), choose grass-fed dairy or organic/US-sourced plant proteins, and consider brands known for transparency like Transparent Labs, Ritual, Garden of Life, or Naked Nutrition, as plant-based powders often absorb more metals from soil, though specific products like Muscle Tech Mass Gainer and Amazonia RAW have shown low levels."
I didn't know this was a thing. Now I have something else to worry about.

Ascent is #1 (best flavor alongside ingredients)
Levels / Kirkland at #2 (best ingredients, good flavor)
On (most amount of fillers. Look up the sweetner theyre using) is bottom of the list. Still popular from the marketing they used to do. I did go through 10lb of the gold standard in the last few years. Its okay in a pinch but if I had my pick (competitive price) id go in above order.
