Has there been a change overall in the material of these shoes compared to 10+ years ago? I had some pairs back then and felt they were fine, I bought a new pair for the first time maybe 1-2 years ago and if they didnt come direct from Nike I would have thought they were a knockoff thats how bad they felt.
I'm not totally sure. I just know I had mids from like 5 years ago and they seemed just alright. My son got highs like 6 months later and I was like wow. Mine are junk lol

I went to the JD store to buy a pair. They were horrible material quality. Felt like plastic.

Mids and highs are the exact same height on AJ1 models. Highs are just made with better materials
The heights are different
"AI Overview
The main differences between Jordan 1 High and Mid are the cut height, branding, and materials. The Highs are taller and have Nike Air on the tongue, while Mids are slightly shorter, sit at the ankle, and have a Jumpman logo on the tongue. Highs generally use higher-quality materials and are considered more "OG" and valuable, whereas Mids are more accessible and are often a more budget-friendly option."

Mids kill this for me. The "leather" on these things are so cheap and stiff. "Highs" have much better material
How much are the high OG? $80 sale? If you ask me, it is dumb to pay 2x or 3x more for very similar sneaker. Those sneaker head dorks who just want to bash the mids in order to justify their high price paid for their OG. They probably don't even play basketball in them or do any activity in them and more concerned with trends and flipping them. "No creases. No creases.".

I mean playing in Jordan ones is not really the best idea anyway lol

I play basketball three times a week. I'm in my forties and I would never wear those things. They are cool with jeans for a nostalgia look but I'm not playing basketball in them. I can get highs for $140 bucks on stockX all day

Believe me, I used to think they were higher as well, but at home I lined them up and I'm telling you if the high is taller it's like a paper thin height. It's like nothing

This tracks with Reddit threads about boys not buying Jordans anymore. Prices have collapsed.
What are you talking about the 1 med J1 and the only ones that reach prices this low and that's because there are so many color ways. The jordan brand brought in over 5 billions last year And averages 5 billion a year look it up.

People can absolutely use these old school style (70s-80s) basketball sneakers for basketball and other sport activities. I workout and box with 70s-80s style basketball high tops because they sit lower to the ground for better ground feel, provide ankle support and can cut and stop very easily. They are quite versatile for their stability and strong upper in other activities beyond basketball. I think too many people automatically think lot of cushion of modern basketball sneaker is always a pro and that isn't the case. I even wear 70s style basketball sneakers that even have less cushion and sits lower to the ground for better ground feel than the 80s style basketball sneakers. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Clyde Frazier played very well in their 70s style basketball sneakers with Adidas and Puma and I got those. They aren't just for casual walking around use. I can do hard cuts and stop on a dime. Majority of the people don't need all the excessive cushioning of modern basketball sneakers especially if they aren't dunking and have high vertical. Lot of modern basketball sneakers come off very clunky... I have like 15 pairs of modern expensive basketball sneakers too with all the fancy tech too. The retro basketball sneakers can definitely be played in and aren't just for wearing with jeans. People may just want to shoot around or just rarely play casually for fun and may not want to spend big bucks for modern basketball sneakers too.
I have no idea what stockX is but I prefer to buy from legit trustworthy retailers. I don't want to spend $180 for any sneaker and then just use them as a "casual jeans sneaker". Paying $68 is more reasonable and would make me more willing to play basketball in them and not worry about "No creases. No creases.". God forbid a crease happened. I will never understand those Jordan freaks. Got all the basketball sneakers and probably never touched a basketball or watched the NBA.
