I'm not someone who is a home audio guy so could someone explain to me if these things are so great which I'm not doubting they are but why would they go on sale at such a steep discount if that's the case?

On the item page, what's in the box, it says the 16. What is really included?

This is a smoking deal. That said, buyer beware. I recently received 2 X RP 1600 subs from Adorama. The boxes were just absolutely filthy and destroyed. Fortunately, only one of the subs was damaged and only some cosmetic damage. The remedy? They offered me $25. I said, come get your sub, but I can't ship it in the box because the box is destroyed. Their service on issues is very, very poor.

Klipsch makes some great home theater speakers. I've this exact setup in the older Reference Premiere lineup and 10 years going strong they still sound and look amazing!

Different applications. If you have the space for the Klipsch system, it will sound significantly better. If space and aesthetics are an issue, the Sonos is you system.

This same package minus the sub was just $1500 last week or two ago.

This current $2100 package means you're paying $600 for the RP1200 sub. NOT a great deal.

Compare the price of the 8000Fi or ii, 504Ci or ii, and 600Mi or ii, from Crutchfield and Amazon. I'll bet you can find them for $1500 or (if you stick with the "i" versions) a couple hundred bucks less if you buy those speakers separately.

Spend the savings on a better sub than the RP1200 especially if you have a big open plan space. I would look at RSL Speedwoofer 10e, 10S, 12S and Hsu VTF-2, VTF-3, or TN-1. You could double up on the RSL 10e and/or 10S if you wanted the benefits of duals.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is one of the reasons I hesitate to recommend the Klipsch RP subs from Adorama, despite their undeniably attractive pricing.

btw, from what I've read the RP1600 has supposedly been prone to the same amp failure issues that plagued previous Klipsch sub models like the SPL and R series.

Because regular MSRP ("retail") of mass market big-brand audio gear is a joke, designed to give people the ILLUSION of getting some big breaks when they go "on sale" at prices that are still handsomely profitable for both the vendor and the manufacturer.

When you look at reputable internet-direct brands like Ascend, Hsu, Rythmik, PSA, RSL, etc. you'll notice that their sale prices (which happen 1-3 times a year tops) are extremely modest reductions, not more than 5-10% usually, because their regular pricing is already super competitive.
