At least ten. Jokes aside, there's a LOT.

1-6 are the original NES releases. 7 is the only SNES release with updated graphics. 8 released on PS1 with further graphical updates. 9 and 10 went back to the NES graphics, controls, and difficulty for multiple consoles (XBLA, PSN, Steam, etc.).

Then you have Mega Man X, who is the successor to Mega Man (several years into the future, but I can't remember the exact lore). That went up to 8, I believe. Then there's the Battle Network games, Mega Man ZX, ZX Advent, Power Battle... The list goes on.

They're all fantastic games. I would strongly recommend waiting for a Capcom bundle deal from Fanatical and picking up the Legacy Collections for dirt cheap.

I think it's worth mentioning that it's currently on sale at Steam for $4.49 - a $0.64 difference.

How many Mega Man games are there? Where does this game fall in line with the franchise / collection?

I really need to check Megaman out with some of the prices on the games or collections. A franchise ive never really explored despite playing video games since early 90s. Any suggested starting point or just start at the beginning of it all with NES?

Yeah for just the classic games start with the first. I'd try out the X series at some point though, similar games but the appeal is slightly different. X is about speed, the classics are about timing.
