Just curious why don't you buy a MacBook Air M1 refurbished for about $250-300? It's great for internet surfing. And with 8GB in a MacBook, it's not the same on Windows.

Oof, 8GB of RAM? Staring at my wife's ryzen laptop right now. 2.1 GB of memory is reserved for graphics. Granted she has 16GB of total RAM. But still. If the graphic reservation is linear, then 1 gig will be reserved for graphics on this laptop.

The wife just surfs the web and runs excel and is using 6GB with a few chrome tabs + excel open. That plus the memory reservation is 8.1 total.

Someone else can check me, but generally LPDDR5 is soldered so no ram upgrades. Maybe hp added an additional slot here, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Even with 8GB of RAM this would be more than enough for basic usage but is it a better value then the 14" FHD+ IPS Touch, Ryzen AI 7 350, 24GB LPDDR5, 1TB version for a little over a $100 more?

With Ryzen 5 220 you get 740M graphics, you can do some light gaming with it

try flipping the screen (well don't) and using it as a tablet and a pen note/drawing device. You are right though 8gb is fine for basic stuff on a MacBook, this will just drag.

Why use the term "open box"? Makes it sound like these are new units but the box was opened.

In reality, they are refurbished or used returns with varying degrees of wear, missing accessories, scratches and dents, etc.

I'm seeing some pretty good deals on new products. I'll stick with those rather than risk any of these.
