Ubisoft DRM is so bad on Steamdeck/Linux, I played about half of Far Cry Primal and then it broke for 2 years before magically working again.

i bought at $35 and would say it's worth $40 easily.

beautiful game, story is great, characters are compelling and lovable. Kay is confident but also imperfect and clumsy in a VERY Han Solo-esque way. the world feels more alive and lived-in than any other Star Wars game save maybe KOTOR — you really get a sense for what everyday life is like for regular people under the thumb of the Empire at its peak. lore callbacks are fantastic without feeling fanservicey or forced — I love that you can discover old Clone Wars-era stuff despite this being Empire-era.

rewards for exploration often justify exploring. discovering the location of collectibles and side quests and upgrade parts in this game is PERFECT — you learn about rumors just by overhearing conversations walking around town, which i wish more games did instead of forcing you to insert yourself into every conversation.

combat is mid. very early on, Kay grows out of feeling scrappy and becomes disbelievingly overpowered, esp vs Imperials, but it feels like a gameplay affordance rather than lore intentionality. factions are a neat idea but underbaked — would have been CRAZY good with the nemesis system. the overall gameplay loop gets a lil repetitive over time, but not so soon that i couldn't make it to the end of the game, mainly due to story investment.

not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination. but absolutely underrated. i don't regret it in the slightest.

Definitely the lowest it has been on PC.

I just picked it up on Steam for $21. It's a fun game, but it wasn't worth $70 at launch.

I kind of hate buying things directly on Ubisoft Connect, and much prefer buying Ubisoft games on Steam. I got this game working on my ROG Ally with SteamOS, and managing the game from Ubisoft Connect is a pain vs SteamOS.

Yes prince of persia is definitely a must have. Probably the best or second best game here.

you buy an ubisoft game, and they go bankrupt with a fire sale of any IP assets blar blar. If the game requires an online connection, that could disappear along with the entirety of Ubisoft.

Or, you have a catastrophic computer problem, you fix it or get a new machine. Whoops can't re-download the game because Ubisoft is OUT OF BUSINESS.

You could say the same thing could happen to games bought on Steam. But among all game software stores out there, Valve is the only one with a history that will allow you to sleep soundly at night with full confidence your game licenses are still working and still good, even if your computer and backup storage solutions are destroyed in a fire/earthquaike, there's real confidence there that you can just re-download your games without a whole lotta headaches

in your opinion, what's the chance of ubisoft going bankrupt?

well the chance of major changes and shakeups is real. they're already selling major assets to external investors just to try to keep the lights on at their various development studios. The companies that are buying into their intellectual property will be most interested in new releases, and if older games don't run anymore, no big deal to them because their interest will 100 percent be in "new releases" of ubisoft's IP.

looks like ubisoft is acquiring, not selling, assets

They already got bought out by tencent, and tencent isn't going bankrupt anytime soon.

It's the same problem most non-Steam games have... When Ubisoft updates their launcher, it often breaks the non-Steam game, so you have to go into desktop mode to fix it. Ubisoft connect isn't super popular and has no native support with Heroic Launcher, but is supported by the Decky app, NonSteamLauncher. Still, I hate having to rely on a 3rd party utility like Decky, that breaks constantly. I'll stick with SteamOS native when possible, with Epic Games and GOG as decent alternatives.
This is why I moved from my Steam Deck to a Legion Go. Easy to keep non steam games going with fewer issues. Love the deck, but also like easy when it comes to gaming.
