I literally bought a similar looking tripod [amazon.com] earlier this year from a different brand called UBeesize and w/ all the features Amazon includes w/ theirs, it pretty much resembles the one from UBeesize. I guess what they said was true a/b how Amazon literally rips off the design of their merchants' products in order to sell their own version...

Or like maybe they just source it from the same manufacturer and slapped their own label on it?

They don't rip off the design per se, they just get them at the same factory. The majority of the products on Amazon are all made at the same factory just a different badge put on, that's why you will see 30 brands with the same product and some with the same pictures.
