I got these earlier this year from a previous deal, and I agree with you. But I did find that these can be great. Especially if you already have metal surfaces nearby to stick the magnets to.

If your organization style is one that likes to see commonly used items, then these are a great way to store things like cables. As an example, these stick to the metal legs of my desk. I've got an array of USB and Ethernet cables hanging from them. That way I've got the basics within arms reach for where I often need them.

Another use is for my son's racing wheel stand. The stand gets moved out of the way when not in use. And it's easy for the long, dangling power and USB cables to get in the way or damaged. I have one of these wrapped around either of those cables. That way when it's time to move the stand, it's super quick to attach the loose ends to anywhere on the all metal stand.

I have a billion cables and a huge assortment of velcro, zip, and twist ties. Enough that seeing a deal like the rubber coated steel twist ties is an automatic impulse buy. Basic twist ties are hands down the best value out there. But if you're like me and focus a lot on this stuff, you may find these magnetic ties useful.

Got these a while back. They have their purpose. But the magnetic can keep falling off and you have to be careful not to have it near any electronics because it will damage it. Otherwise they do service their purpose.

Magnets don't damage electronics. That hasn't been an issue since like 1996.

Keep this away from your floppy disks and you should be fine.

That's mostly true but they can wreak havoc and possible cause your death. People with pacemakers and defibrillator implants, for example, should not have magnets within 6" of the devices. A magnet can temporarily disable them. Likewise for insulin pumps. A magnet can interfere with the motor as well as regulation mechanism. A very strong magnet can actually damage the pump. We tell patients with these devices to avoid putting their smartphones in nearby pockets. Sources of magnetism include the speaker, magnetometer and the vibrator. And worse of all, the Magsafe on iPhones.

Magnets can also interfere with some medical machinery. A colleague told me that an iPhone's magnet interfered with the evoked potentials as well as nerve conductions.
