I used these back when in the service and they worked great with a nylon cover strap so they couldn't be seen at night.

I had the nylon strap too. I was just thinking wow they still make this watch!

I don't own this watch, but from what I know from having friends with standard quartz Timex watches, the ticking with these can sometimes be surprisingly loud.

VH31 movement or Japanese quartz is often preferred over regular quartz functionality. What you say is true of this product at least according to the review I watched. I wish my brain wasn't so choosy with a dumb watch; they are almost entirely about aesthetics though.

Great watch, I own 3. As someone else mentioned the ticking is louder than some other watches, but it's not like obnoxious or anything.

So many of the watches I have I have to throw into a pile after a couple of years because the straps fall apart and I don't see an easy or cost effective way of replacing the band. Watches outlast bands. Replacing a whole watch because (seemingly) least important part doesn't last long is counterintuitive.
