The Steel Legend RX 9070 XT stands out as a fast 16GB card that can handle demanding games like Cyberpunk at 1440p ultra wide with ray tracing while staying cool and fairly quiet. Long term use also points to strong performance, and undervolting can further cut heat and power draw. The main concerns are ASRock's slow RMA process, occasional reliability complaints, and reports of coil whine or hotspot temperature issues on some cards. It looks like a solid performer if you are comfortable with the brand and warranty risk.
PC builders who want a 1440p ultra-wide gaming card for the money because one commenter has run it for months with low temps and pretty quiet operation while playing Cyberpunk on 1440p ultra-wide at high/ultra settings with ray tracing.
Gamers who are comfortable doing GPU tuning because if you're running a 9070 XT/9070, undervolting and tuning can improve performance while lowering power usage and heat "tremendously."
Upgraders shopping during the November/Black Friday window because commenters say this card has been at the November/BF price and retailers may delay price increases until the new year, so it's a good time to buy if you're upgrading.
People who need fast, painless warranty service because one commenter said the ASRock RMA process is "atrocious" with a 3-4 week turnaround (and sometimes it feels like no one is working on it).
Buyers who are sensitive to hotspot/thermals and want a more fully featured mid-tier card because one commenter called the 9070 XT Steel Legend "fairly shitty," citing low boost clock, no dual BIOS, and bad results including particularly bad hotspot temps.
Anyone who can't risk a quick failure after purchase because one user reported the card "busted in 2 days" and returned it, implying reliability concerns for at least some units.
Shoppers who are trying to avoid coil whine risk because another commenter reported severe coil whine instances on a recently received model and said they'd likely switch brands (even if they might return within the window).
The Steel Legend 9070 XT can show weak boost clock behavior and hotspot temperature issues, along with a low quality plastic fan shroud and no dual BIOS.
Yes, this price has reportedly been common for about a month across major retailers like Micro Center, Amazon, and Newegg. One comment also notes Newegg was $50 cheaper than a June purchase, while another says the card was $670 in June and would have been $700 without open-box pricing.
The card has at least one report of failing within 2 days, and ASRock's warranty service is described as having a 3-4 week turnaround. If the card dies after the return window, you may need to rely on that RMA process.
The Hellhound is presented as the better mid-tier 9070 XT choice, with the Steel Legend criticized for a low 2970 MHz boost clock, plastic shroud, no dual BIOS, and worse hotspot/VRM/VRAM temperatures. The Steel Legend is still favored by some for its look and availability, but the Hellhound is the recommended alternative.
It can deliver strong 1440p ultra-wide performance in demanding games like Cyberpunk at High/Ultra with ray tracing while staying low-temp and fairly quiet. It also benefits from undervolting and tuning, which can further reduce heat and power use.
It has been at the price for a long time. I got it and it busted in 2 days. I didn't even use it at all. Returned it. Get one from a reliable brand instead of thism

Define long time? I gave $699 for mine about 5 months ago. Its been solid on my end, all brands have lemons they all likely source parts from the same places.

I've used many GPUs and never had one go defective. That being said, asrock rma process is atrocious. 3-4 weeks for turnaround, sometimes feels like no one's even working over there. All other brands are WAY better

He's lying. I literally bought mine from NewEgg in June at $670 and it would've been priced at $700 if it wasn't open box.

That's what I was afraid of after I purchased my card.

It has been this price for around a month pretty much everywhere (Microcenter, Amazon, Newegg, etc.)
The 9070 XT Steel Legend is fairly shitty card pretending to be a "mid-tier" option. Only thing they kinda did right was using Honeywell PTM 7950.
Low Boost Clock max of 2970MHz (same as the SFF Reaper and other base models.)
Low quality plastic fan shroud.
No dual bios.
Across the board bad results testing gpu temp, vram temps, vrm temps, with paricularly bad issues with hotspot temps.
Just buy an acutal mid-tier 9070 XT like the $630 Powercolor Hellhound.

Don't most if not all RMAs go through the retailer?

I was referring to RMA when you're outside the return policy. Most return policies are 30 days so if your GPU dies after that, you have to contact the manufacturer for RMA under their warranty.
I've done many RMAs with all the major companies as I build PCs for a living, AsRock has been the worst. By far. I still buy their products though. Their 9070s were always reasonably priced and their white model looks great. I would definitely keep buying them as it's quite rare for a computer part to go bad if it works for the first 30 days.
Anyone running 9070XT or 9070 Remember to undervolt and tune your GPU. You'll get more performance and lower power usage/heat tremendously on these cards.

I got the Challenger a few days ago.
It's not "busted", but I have had instances of severe coil whine. I would probably go back with another brand, or the Asus main line. I may still do it since I'm still in the window.
This has been the November/BF price. Since Ramageddon happened, the retailers probably are holding off the price increases until the new year for GPUs.
If anyone is upgrading, I would not wait.

Gotcha, wasn't aware since I've only built 1 PC and that was 14 years ago. Thankfully everything worked.
