When I worked in the trades to scope out a situation before dragging in all my tools, I could get a good idea of what was going on with a knife and a screwdriver. I always carried a blade. So the screwdriver is just icing on the cake.

I could also use this around the house. 90% of the time I either need a knife to cut open a box, or a screw driver to change out the batteries on my kids toys. I think its a pretty useful tool to have on you at all times.

They're not brand new... they've been around for several years. I got my first one almost 3 years ago and they've been around longer than that.
They are popular though, because they're great.
One of my favorite small gifts to give.

I feel ya. As someone who doesn't use it for work, my use case will be both way less demanding and not nearly as frequent. I just rarely have had situations come up where I bring the knife with me to cut something open, where all of a sudden that same task will not only require the use of a screwdriver, but happen often enough where the feature is more useful than a blade going dull and needing extra blade storage.
That being said, if you have one of the models with at least storage for one single blade, I can see how it can be useful and convenient as an extra feature. However, I have the OG model with the different body, which has NO blade storage whatsoever, and it annoys the crap outta me.

Got these a couple months ago in a similar deal. They're solid, I like them. Got sick of the shitty plastic 2 dollar ones I was always afraid would break.

I want to buy it, but nobody really says why it's superior to all my other xacto knives, just that they're the best. Sell me

Besides the build quality, the main feature (and reason I believe people enjoy using this, IMO) is the ability to both open and close it one-handed, with a quick flick of the wrist. The rest can be seen in the link I posted above.
The only time I reach for an Xacto these days is precision work (or the rare occasion I needed to easily snap blades off that yellow one back in the day). I'm not on commission so that's all you're gonna get from me.

Don't buy it if you don't want it. Sounds like an easy decision for you.
