Not sure about the exact split but with the way the market is now looks like this is about as good as it'll get. The CPU still packs a punch or it can easily be flipped for a 14th gen model.

I'd take a 12th Gen Intel over the 13/14th Gen Intel any day of the week. They are still destroying themselves after numerous microcode "fixes".

Why is it higher now? Was it a price error?

Major tech companies' impossibly high demand for AI hardware has been wreaking havoc on the storage and RAM markets in the past couple months. There just isn't anywhere near enough supply to go around, resulting in crazy high prices. You should expect higher prices and/or lower specs on laptops, phones, tablets, consoles, etc. next year as a result.

Now the RAM kit is $350, and your best price to find DDR5 6000 32GB kit is $300. Crucial announced they are leaving the RAM game and Samsung announced a 100% price increase on RAM next year. So you can look at it like you are buying the RAM and mobo and getting a free beastly 4 year old CPU.

Memory prices are crazy high for the foreseeable future. RAM I bought 18 months ago for $50 now goes for $180. Almost all of the prince increase is from the RAM. People who whine about it used to be cheaper are definitely making a choice. As tech companies shift towards AI, consumers are going to pay more for less. Nvidia is supposedly reducing 50XX production 40% next year, Micron has pulled out of the consumer market. Less supply + equal demand = increased prices.

The problem with the children who cry about it not being as cheap as it was a few years ago are is that it has nothing to do with Microcenter. In a sense, it is businesses being greedy. In a sense, it is businesses pivoting to the demand signals. Right now, the demand is for AI. AI farms are able to pay a premium for their hardware. It sucks. You and I can whine about it...but maybe with some context. That context being that global demand for hardware has spiked well beyond production capabilities and so whomever can pay the most will get the resources until tooling and manufacturing can catch up. Surprisingly that means the biggest tech companies in the world won't prioritize the wants of ClickCrayon1512 and their ilk. I can't blame them. Deal with a child who misremembers what the spent years ago (if you go back and do a search, the cheapest at Microcenter was $400 for the i9...the i7 was $300) or a business that will a) buy in bulk and b) spend a premium for the privilege to buy in bulk.
