There's a few others not mentioned here, I also saw Serial Experiments Lain and Outlaw Star Complete for $4.99, and very highly recommended

Links work fine for me. If you want to buy the show, you have to do it within the AppleTV app which won't automatically happen on a windows PC

I only checked a couple, but under languages it lists audio for English and Japanese, and subtitles for English as well

We're the only country of nerds that complain about dubbed. Do you think other countries are watching American stuff in English with subtitles? I've been to other countries and have friends from other countries, and they all watch our stuff dubbed in their language.

People prefer subbed because in the 80s and 90s the dubs were terrible, bad translations and the emotional inflections were off. Nowadays the dubs are very good so the preference doesn't make sense, but is a cultural holdover among anime enjoyers.

Thanks for mentioning Outlaw Star; I had never heard of it. I think I'm hitting an iTunes bug- I bought the English language version, but it shows up as the complete Japanese language version in my library. It plays in English though. Anyone else seeing this?

Link works fine on an iPhone. Which do you recommend beyond Bebop?
They're linked to the wrong series. I tried Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and it took me to Princess Jellyfish. Person didn't get the title or spelling correctly.

I checked every single one listed here, plus a couple of others, these actually have a separate box set listing for Japanese audio (it will clearly say it in the title):
  • Assassination Classroom
  • Gargantia
  • Horimiya
  • Concreto Revolutio
  • Outlaw Star

I wish there was a listing collated somewhere but there isn't. I think also Fandango has any shows ever in English, so I think AppleTV is the only option, even tho it is pretty paltry. Hope this helps people who prefer original audio!

Both top notch series. Bebop is my favorite anime of all time. Outlaw Star is not far behind but gets much less love possibly because it's in Bebop's shadow. They're uncannily similar in spirit.

SEL is highly regarded and shockingly prescient for its time. Probably in my top 5. These titles are from the golden era of anime imo. Much different than the stuff being produced today.

I get the preference for subs with live action. Very rarely can voiceovers match the original performance in live action.

But ALL animation is dubbed by definition. Every performance is a voiceover, so discussions should be about the quality of the voice work, not whether it's the original language.

All that said, the original Hellsing has both English and Japanese audio, and it's a steal for $5. I know Hellsing Ultimate is supposed to be the better version, but this is the one I started with, and I'll always prefer it.

Which ones would people recommend for someone that so far has only experienced Cowboy Beebop?

To match the mouths the dialogue they use often changes the meaning which takes away from the story, and in some cases changes the perspective of the characters entirely.

In japan many voice actors are as popular or even more so then regular actors. They have very high standards that America does not.
For example you can walk up to any person on the street in Japan and ask who their favorite voice actor is, and even if they don't have one they can give you a name. Pretty sure no one in my circle could do the same for an American voice actor.

I highly recommend Samurai Champloo. Great animation and story with a legendary lo-fi hip-hop soundtrack. I didn't see it mentioned on the list here but I came across it while browsing other titles in the Apple TV app. Trigun is a good one as well and has some hilarious comedic beats, albeit not as polished of a production as Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo.

Yup, Samurai Champloo and Trigun as well. Classic stuff!
