The fanboys who had to get one already got one. This fanboy sales of 15-20 million sales was bound to happen no matter what. This was very evident in the 1st 3 month sales numbers. Earlier families that bought previous consoles were pushed out of buying power by the steep price increase. From 200/300 to 500 is steep. Games costing 80 n 90 is way too high when families are struggling to put food on the table. Others who value money are waiting for the price to drop considerably. These 50 or 100 cuts will not work unless it goes back to S1 release prices. Not everyone is going to pay 500 for outdated S2 specs to play just first party titles which are not many. For 3rd party titles they have ps5 n Xbox to run it better. Lack of exclusive titles n repeated rerelease of older titles are not helping with major sales. Not everyone has the time n money to spend on what they've already did.

Lack of chart bursting holiday sales for a newly released console is a big concern. Sales numbers falling heavily behind ps5 that was released 5 years ago gives the real picture. Nintendo's problems are only going to get worse with increasing memory prices, game key card debacle, greedy dlc pricing for unreleased games n share holders pressure for lacklustre showing. This is what happens when you replace people like Iwata who developed games as a passion with greedy money making business men. Nintendo really needs a reality check.

I think they will have to choose 1 of the 3 options..
1. Take a hit in profit by reducing the price to 300 or 350 to increase console sales and continue to make money on game releases. If console doesn't sell, then games don't sell. And reducing price should not be a concern for a billion dollar corporation like Nintendo
2. Wait it out a few years holding on to current prices even if the sales are low n see if the economy improves so many could buy the consoles again. Games sales will be poor as well with this option
3. Release exclusive Mario/Zelda titles that are a huge hit that boosts the console sales. This could take a few more years at the very least. Metroid n Pokemon releases seemed rushed n people have mixed feelings on these

Just my 2 cents.. you have every right to have your own opinion 👍

There are too few good games for switch 2, not sure why they released it in this state, how can you release a new console without at least 5 blockbuster games
Give me one console that launched with 5 blockbuster games. Go ahead I'll wait.

lol what are you talking about. Costco has sold discounted Nintendo gift cards for years. This is not a new thing that Nintendo forced to Costco and Sam's Club in order to get more switch 2 sales. lol go touch grass
10% off eShop cards is the norm at Costco/Sam's Club. So you're telling me during the Black Friday in the same year the Switch 1 came out, the following occurred?
  • 20% discount on eShop cards
  • Hardware was available to purchase on eShop, including the Switch 1
Show me the receipts!

FYI, I've touched grass and it's awesome! Wink

LOL, you have google. You can search all you want. But here's a hint: Yes, Costco has offered 20% off regularly on Nintendo gift cards. And it has nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo is not giving a steeper discount to Costco for gift cards. Again, you need to touch grass.

The point was availability of a new gen console being heavily discounted (20%) in its first year. If Nintendo chose to, that 20% off could have "not existed" for the Switch's 1st year. Anyone who's ever worked in an electronics retail store knows how regulated the pricing is for a game console (i.e. not heavily discounted).

Considering that the eShop gift card balance limit only just increased from $250 to $800 this October and the Switch 1 retailed for $299.99 in 2017 when it came out, tell me again how this was possible for the prior gen (or the Switch 2 until this Oct)? Sounds like someone should be taking their own advice about Google!

Simply missed playing Mario games and loves the Wii sports. I haven't owned a console since and with the good reviews, I decided to try it. Perhaps it my age and simply not into games? I'll try your suggestions. I want to like it but it's collecting dust unused for 7 days already
As adults, we value our time more and do not find ourselves entertained by the 'same game' with slightly improved mechanics or graphics. Hence, a game has to be truly revolutionizing for it to capture our attention. I find that it helps to actually block out time on your calendar and schedule a night around playing your console. If you allow yourself to look forward to it, you'll approach it with a better attitude than letting it sit there in the corner.

Nicely said. I first need to find that game which will capture my attention.... Mario kart and DK wasn't it. Now I have to decide which other Mario game of the past 6 years or so is most likely to be it. I'm hopeful at least one of them will be good enough

Otherwise, my game time will continue to be flight sim which has been a constant source of enjoyment over the years.

If you love flight sims, stick to PC and stay away from consoles!

How would Nintendo shut off that 20%? Costco and Sam's Club were offering 20% off gift cards, which they do regularly. Nintendo could tell them to stop discounting gift cards? I don't think so. If you have evidence that they have that kind of power please share. This was not an official sale by Nintendo. It was discounted gift cards offered by Sam's and Costco.

Again, I think you're seeing a conspiracy that doesn't exist. Yes, Nintendo increased the gift card balance limit on the eshop. And Apple lets you use $20,000 or more in gift cards on the Apple store. I guess all apple products must be selling terribly and that's why Apple is allowing this. lol get real

You still haven't commented on how extraordinary it was to get the Switch 2 for 20% off in Nov. This wasn't possible when the Switch 1 came out (nor for any other console) but that fact is entirely lost on you.

You claimed to get the Switch 2 when it first came out. Is this just jealousy for everyone who took advantage of the Sam's Club and Costco deal? Wink

You couldn't do that with a console that launched over 8 years ago? Things have changed in 8 years? Really?! Wow!! LOL, no kidding things change

You can also get the newest iphone for 15% off by using discounted gift cards. You could also get an Xbox for 15% off using discounted gift cards. It seems like Sony is the outlier that doesn't let you use gift cards to buy a console, but two of the three major console manufacturers let you do that. I believe Nintendo only recently allowed that, but that's a good thing! Not something to doom and gloom about.

Jealousy? Jeez, how old are you? Yikes, not a good look but I see you've gone to every Nintendo Switch thread to air your grievances. You really need to go outside and touch grass. No one cares about your gaming pc, or xbox or whatever you're using. Not sure why it upsets you so much that the Switch 1 & 2 are so popular.

You must not be in enough Nintendo threads. I'm "pro Nintendo" and have never been "anti". We're on the same side and I'm not sure how we ended up in a pissing contest! For the record, I currently own a PS4, PS5, Switch 1, and Switch 2. Never got into XBOX because it was too similar to my gaming PC for my liking.

Played a couple rounds of Mario Kart World and Super Mario Party with my daughter before watching some Crunchyroll with her. I enjoy my breaks away from the keyboard!
