IMO the Echo is the most breathable UPF hoodie. Great for warmer weather or high output activities. The pebble is only UPF15 IIRC but other colors are UPF20 which is good enough except for extreme sun or long exposure.

These are great lightweight sun hoodies. I have one already, and this is a great price so picked up another.

Very similar, I own both and the echo is the lightest/most breathable you can go.

Capilene is 50spf, echo only 15-20 depending on color. You will still burn wearing an echo, which doesn't mean it's bad, and is a great price. I own multiple of both.

Unlikely you will burn in this. Upf 15 still blocks 93% of UV. Upf 50 blocks 98. A cotton T-shirt is upf 5, which blocks 80%. If you're on a boat all day it will make a difference maybe, but most people will be better off with the comfort from a lower upf shirt. Upf 50 shirts hold in much more heat.
The only problem with his fabric is it is very clingy. There's no texture so it sticks to you like a plastic bag when you get sweaty.

If you are taking 100 sun damage. with 15spf(93%) you take 7 damage, with 50spf(98%) you're only taking 2. So you're taking 71.4% LESS damage by going to 50spf.

Whether you burn or not depends on your skin type and age. I can wear a thin white under shirt from the Hanes, jockey, polo all day in blazing sun and won't burn. I would consider myself to be neither fair nor dark.

If your skin would normally burn after 10 minutes in the sun, applying an SPF 15 sunscreen, (or wear a 15spf shirt) would allow you to stay in the sun without burning for approximately 150 minutes (a factor of 15 times longer).

Don't know about you, but two and a half hours of sun protection isn't much when people are putting on "sun shirts". Again I love these shirts, but if you are a pale white irish type you will still burn quickly.

VS an SPF 50 shirt taking that same white irish type out to over 8 hours before starting to burn.

Thanks! Ordered 3. I do some blue water sailboat racing and will spend the entire day in direct sun with no shade, for several days in a row several times each summer.

I have found this shirt allows me to exert the most work when I need to before I get to the edge of overheating and need to hold back a lottle. The breathability is the best of all I have tried by a good margin and I can feel even a very light breeze on my skin through it This comes at the cost of reduced UV protection but I have high SPF sunblock on under anyways. This is a tradeoff I am willing to make as I run very hot and can sweat a lot. This is the color I have, typically I have only seen the darker ones this deeply discounted.

Hood is big enough to allow for good face/neck protection without blocking any vision. I can stretch the hood over the brim of a baseball cap which is awesome.

Super lightweight and does not feel particularly durable. I remember thinking it wouldn't last though half a summer but mine has lasted three seasons now without anything more than cosmetic damage and staining. No loose threads or seams but can look a little beat up and stretched out after only a couple of uses. I would say that this shirt is pure function over fashion and could be a little niche.

Actually as I am typing and thinking about this, I may order a couple more to give as gifts.

Interesting, I wouldn't described mine as even a little clingy. I am a heavy sweater though so maybe all shirts are a little clingy and this is the least swampy as it allows even a light breeze through.

Maybe I just don't remember what is was like new, mine is now three seasons old and very soft but it's probably been through the laundry over 100 times.

Who wants to wear light colored clothes in winter? And, it is expensive, isn't it?
