These are scary. They get really hot but take forever to boil pasta (way longer than a stovetop). You're better off getting an electric kettle, electric skillet or hotpot. Or get a really expensive induction burner.

Isn't induction cooktop like $30, why getting an expensive one?

Maybe for a used one. A Duxtop or Nuwave are over $100. Google "portable induction cooktop". Right now the Nuwave is on sale for $97 on Amazon. Duxtop on sale for $83.99 at Walmart. An induction cooktop is 1800 watts. It uses electromagnetic energy for fast energy-efficient cooking. It's what they use on talk shows and people use them to add cooking space for holiday meals. It's faster and better than a traditional stove. And you need a pot or pan that's compatible with induction cooking. You may already have one. It's also safer.

Home Depot has it for the same $17.99 price, with free delivery.

And, the non-induction model is $18.99, for those who prefer a regular hotplate.

For what it's worth, if you go into the reviews and select only this model that's on sale, there are no reviews for it on Amazon. Makes it a slightly riskier proposition. One of the main reasons I hate these big combined sell pages.

Both of the ones from home depot is non-induction I think. One is "infrared" whatever that means, while the other one is non infrared.
