I bought my two most recent CyberPower battery backups from Costco. They sell the 1500VA / 900W for $150, with free shipping. Usually have them in stock at warehouses, too. Model CST150UC2-E.

Found 2 batteries for $40 to replace the dead batteries inside a cyber power unit from a few years ago. I have been dumping the whole units before.

I have three UPS units, every single one I have replaced the batteries in at least once. Judging by my amazon order history I get around three years off replacement batteries before I need to replace them. The two on my spendy electronics are the Cyberpower versions, similar to this one here. Super easy to swap batteries that are readily available on amazon. Just a few screws, a little adapter that plugs on to the batteries and your good to go.
From what I understand it's good practice to swap out the whole unit after a few battery replacements. The charging circuits see a lot of use and I'd rather swap out the unit for a new one rather than take the risk of a fire or something.

Replace your battery before buying a new one. I was sure my high end old giant elephant APC was dead but decided to get two batteries and see what happens.

Works perfect! It is hooked up to an electric recliner.

Honestly as somebody who's dealt with UPS's for the better part of their 40-year professional career... I yank the plug. There is no testing like real world testing. It's why we cut the power and test our generators every Wednesday in the data center.

Haha, no. I have a few UPS with SLAs and I've never had to replace them in "3-5 years". in fact, I just replaced the batteries in my CP1500AVRLCD which I purchased in 2012 for the first time. Now 13 years is unusual for sure, but it was only $44 for a new set.

How often did you test the batteries? They may have been dead for a while and you were just lucky that the power didn't go out.

Often. Also I live in a rural area where the power goes out if a gnat farts. But like I said, 13 years is unusual.

For people who dont do research and just go by hearsay, here is the bottom line on using battery supplies instead of a true UPS. Do you have voltage fluctuations you need to deal with? Get a true UPS with SLA. Do you have high powered electronics you need to run a few minutes so it can safely power down using a USB UPS monitor? Get a true UPS with SLA. Is your power clean so you dont need voltage regulation, and you want to run low powered equipment a long time and you dont need a USB UPS monitor? Consider these 2 models of LiFePO4: 1) Ecoflow River 2 Pro (better software, but a tiny bit noisy when running). 2) Jackery 1000v2, dead quiet, but runs only on UPS mode at full charge. I have done my research and tried many and there is a big difference between a SLA UPS and a battery with UPS mode. UPS mode can mean power always goes thru the battery and inverter whereas a true UPS uses bypass mode when power is on. Whether or not a battery supply uses bypass mode is not described in the specs or literature. These battery supplies are not yet to the level of protection as a SLA based UPS.

Alos, if you want your SLA to last a year or 2 longer, get the AGM version of the replacement battery.
