11 different (factory reconditioned / refurbished) models available… CyberPower your Office [woot.com]

The similar 1500 VA (simulated sine wave) model CP1500AVRLCD3 / CP1500AVRLCD3-R [woot.com] is $10 more - $139.99.

The 1500 VA (pure sine wave) CP1500PFCLCD / [woot.com]CP1500PFCLCD-R [woot.com] is $179.99 but the recently expired B&H offer was better deal at $189 for brand new.

Note: The listings state: "The batteries have been replaced by the manufacturer as part of the re-conditioning process."

I bought my two most recent CyberPower battery backups from Costco. They sell the 1500VA / 900W for $150, with free shipping. Usually have them in stock at warehouses, too. Model CST150UC2-E.

Haha, no. I have a few UPS with SLAs and I've never had to replace them in "3-5 years". in fact, I just replaced the batteries in my CP1500AVRLCD which I purchased in 2012 for the first time. Now 13 years is unusual for sure, but it was only $44 for a new set.
I can pretty much guarantee you your batteries were dead way before 13 years. I have several of these units and the battery is lost at ~maximum five years. And the unfortunate thing is you will not know until you have an outage because there is no beep or warning that the batteries are dead. That's my one major complaint with these units.

IDGAC what you believe, lol. I have other UPSs that had to have their batteries replaced much earlier than that when they started losing capacity. Not sure what part of my agreeing this is unusual is going over your head, but you do you. Have a pleasant holiday season!

Easiest way is to fully load up with stuff all turned on and then unplug it from the wall.
For an initial test of a suspect unit, I connect only JUNK LOADS like a couple of 500-W halogen garage lights. That way, if the unit craps the sheets it doesn't destroy the electronic stuff i"m trying to protect.

Best advice: If they're NOT the sine wave models, they're not what you want for electronic stuff. Fine for light bulbs and toaster ovens, tho...

These things are great, except the batteries don't last long. Seems the batteries die after 2-3 years. They use lead-acid batteries as far as I know. I've replaced one already and it isn't cheap.

With how cheap LiFePo4 batteries are, why does it seem we can't get a UPS with one of those inside?

I have several of these UPS. They use standard SLA 12V 7.5-9Ah, depending on price/quality. I usually get these for around $18 each, and they need 2. So $36 for AGM 12V, 9A pair. AGMs for me last 4+ years. Not sure what "not cheap" means. $10/year is pretty cheap to me. 10 years is $100 for batteries. I pick them up locally to avoid shipping, you need to find a local battery dealer

Been buying these replacement batteries for 20 years and prices have gone up quite a bit the last year. They used to be $10 each.

I think the ones I got were about $40. Still, having to swap them out every year is a pain in the arse. My one sits behind my computer monitor, my other is in my network rack which is at about head height. Both last for about 5 minutes and are only pushing ~150 watts.

Are you saying that you are using this 1350VA UPS and it only lasts 5 minutes and need to swap out every year? Or are you saying you have a different UPS? I can tell you that if you are talking about this UPS, it makes no sense what you are saying. Two 12V 9Ah = 216Wh so with a 150W load, it should last around an hour or so, factoring the efficiency of the inverter. If it lasts 5 min and must be replaced every year, you either have a very very old and inefficient UPS that is grossly underpowered, or it is broken. 150W @ 5 min = 12 Wh.

[QUOTE=Syndrake;181431565]Personally, I wouldn't go for these. They use SLA batteries that need to be replaced after 3-5 years. These days you can pay a little more and get a more versatile power station with a LiFePO4 battery (lasting more than 10 years,) larger capacity, and which outputs a true sine wave. Just make sure it has fast enough transfer switching to work as a UPS (

I have this one attached to my TV and PS5. I think it lasts around half an hour but I play so infrequently that I haven't even seen how long it would last. I have a 1500va APC pure sinewave one that only lasts 5 minutes attached to a router (30W), NAS (70W), Switch (18W), and a wireless access point (30W). I replaced the APC battery last year and was amazed how quickly it runs out of battery. I really dislike that we're still using Lead-acid when LiFePO4 is cheaper with a lot higher energy capacity.

The one behind my computer (I guess I have 3) is a smaller one which I also changed the battery out on. I only get power blips where I'm at and my computer isn't sensitive. Regardless, the screen is facing away from me so I can't actually determine how long that lasts after I swapped that battery. Only reason I noticed the one on my network rack is I needed to shut off the breaker for what was probably a 20 minute job, for it to die in 5.

How often did you test the batteries? They may have been dead for a while and you were just lucky that the power didn't go out.

You must have really reliable power in your area cause in my area the power drops regularly from 2 seconds to 2 hours depending on where the squirrel decided to chew on the electrical lines 2 blocks over. I have purchased several used APC 1500VA units without batteries on ebay for $50-75 and then added batteries. I would trust APC more than cyberpower as the two I dealt with both ended up being junk and were replaced by apc units that are still going strong.

...and to the person who got 13 years on a set a batteries you are certainly an extremely fortunate individual. If I get 5 I'm ok. If i get 7 I'm thrilled.

Agreed. Get new from Costco and they also have a true sine wave model for $209.99.

The 3-5 year battery replacement number comes from CyberPower's website, by the way. I'm glad your experience has been so different. https://www.cyberpower.com/de/en/...ps-battery

Any recommended brands/models?
I use the BLUETTI Elite 100 V2 Portable Power Station as a UPS for a desktop computer. It works great. Its regular price is closer to $400, though. There are lower capacity models to be sure. Power stations are posted regularly here, and invariably someone asks if it is suitable to work as a UPS. Passthrough power and under 20ms transfer times seem to be the main criteria here.

Is refurbished for something like this worth it?
