5080 Model for 2299 was a much better deal.
Agreed. If only for gaming, the performance between the 5080 and 5090 are not that far apart.

I would only pay more for the 5090 if needed for AI workloads or other vram intensive tasks.

I'm getting 140+ FPS on ultra settings on Khazan: the First Berserker (GREAT GAME BTW) on my Lenovo Legion 7i non-Pro Gen 10 with rtx 5070, and can't imagine needing more GPU in a laptop. Same with Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth Wukong. Everything I throw at it, with both CPU & GPU undervolted.

I know this is a pointless comment, much like the few comments about how expensive this is, but a high-end laptop in the early 2000s would easily reach $3k and that is not adjusted to inflation.

Computers and other devices like TVs are some of the few things in the markets that are still more affordable now than they were decades ago.

Also I dislike how Nvidia markets their laptop GPUs with the same model names as their desktop GPUs. People will buy this thinking they're getting a true 5090 experience and it's more like a 5070Ti experience. They should come up with different model names for their laptop GPUs.

Depends on what price vs. performance you're after. This is the best deal I've found on a 5090 laptop.

Also, FWIW, the 5080 version is now out of stock in my area and unavailable for shipping.
It says 25+ new in stock in my area.

5070 ti only has 16gb of VRAM. This has 24gb VRAM.

5070 ti has 8960 cores; 5090 laptop has 10496 cores;
This is comparable to desktop 5080 in cuda cores at 10752. Maybe if super had released with 24gb of VRAM, this would be comparable.

In terms of performance, this is power limited so maybe in frame rates and such would be comparable to 5070 ti. But, again you don't want 300w-400w dumped on your lap and a jet engine sound.

Yeah I'm talking about actually usage power. Gaming laptops should always be bought over desktops in special circumstances in my opinion. It just doesn't make sense if you are docking it on your desk 90% of the time.

It's like a 5080 with 24gb VRAM that is power limited to 180 watts.

Depends if 64GB is important to you. The $2299 64GB model is actually a better deal if you need it, and was also available just a day or two ago before it got removed from the Microcenter site. I got one just in time, it appears. The $2k 32GB model hasn't been available for almost a month.

Actually, still available in some stores, so I'd definitely save the money. The laptop 5090 is not worth the price difference:
