Is it's sold by Amazon's official storefront and shipped by Amazon then it's usually not fake. I'd still be wary and only buy fragrances I know and can verify once I receive. It'll be easier to return at least if it turned out to be a fake. If it's sold by third party seller I won't recommend buying it. Last 2 times I purchased from a third party seller I received fakes so I don't bother anymore.

Crowd pleasing smell. This drop this year so chances of getting a fake are small but still be wary.

This is one of the biggest myths perpetrated on SD. The answer is it's a total crapshoot at best.

Amazon mixes inventory with 3rd-party sellers who use FBA or "fulfillment by amazon". If those vendors send a fake, it goes in the cage with the real stuff. It's called "inventory co-mingling" and it's been a plague on Amazon for years and years. I've gotten many, many fake and counterfeit products from Amazon (shipped & sold by) so realistically there is no guarantee other than buying away from Amazon.

Fragrances are a commonly counterfeited item, so do the math.

Actually, you're more likely to get fake olive oil or avacado oil off of Amazon. Do you warn people about buying oils? Significantly more of the oils advertised as olive turn out to be something else. There is a good chance that oil you pay $15 a bottle for cost about $1 to make and fake. And Amazon will actually stand behind fakes, so you get your money back with scents, but most people have no idea that olive oil is fake and never ask for their money back.

Thankfully Amazon will stop co-mingling from Mar 31 2026 🙏🏻
