Same. Been looking out for an 'acceptable' price on a WD Red but the 10-16TB drives generally have a significant price premium per TB over the 18-28TB drives. I just don't need that much space.

So the 16TB is marked at $349 and the 12TB is $299, but the 14TB is discounted from $449?

They are enterprise class NAS drives. The specs are posted at the top. The workload rate is 550TB per year. Calculate how much data your NVR will record per day, multiply that by 365, and see if that number is less than 550TB. If so, then yes. This is a good drive for your use case.

What do you mean by "waste" space? Anything other than RAID0 "wastes" space for redundancy or parity.

Two 12TB drives in RAID1 give you only 12TB of storage, not 24TB.

If you're trying to add these 14TB drives, then your best option is to make them a separate RAID volume.

If you do RAID5, then the 14TB drive would be the parity drive, so you'd end up with 24TB of space.
