I bought one of these in June for $22. It's okay, but not great. I'm not a big fan of the guillotine style open/closure, and have had some trouble with the unit thinking that the labels are misaligned when they aren't - Hitting the open button, not letting it open, and clicking it closed again fixes this, but slightly annoying. I'm not using this one for 4x6 labels - I have a contained unit for those - I use this for barcode printing for inventory expiration date tracking. It's decent for the price, if you're on a budget and looking for as cheap as possible.
If you have the budget, I'd go with a self contained unit that holds the roll inside it every time. Things get bumped, and the alignment is never 100% perfect with these ones you just have a separate roll holder to maintain the labels in, and the small vibrations of the unit when printing will eventually pull things out of alignment on all of them.
Edit: Just to add, the incomplete labels and choppy text are most likely misconfiguration on the users part. I coded my own inventory management system and definitely had to play around with things to get it just right, but this printer uses the same pretty generic driver as all the other low cost label printers that you see online, so you definitely have to tweak things to get it right. Printing a 4x6 label off a normal shipping platform should work fine out of the box, though I've only tested 4x6 through this a few times.

Bad reviews - incomplete labels, choppy text. You get what you pay for

So basically all these cheap thermal printers are, at least internally, Zebra LP2844 clones. A lot of these printers come with absolutely terrible Windows drivers, which don't work with Stamps.com, Endicia, ShipStation, Pitney Bowes, PirateShip, etc... You *should* be able to get them working with the Seagull Scientific driver for for the Zebra LP2844 (for Windows). Just remember to set your label size in the driver preferences after you set it up. If you are using a Mac try using the Zebra LP2844 driver baked into MacOS. Good luck!

Do you think a roll/printer holder like https://www.printables.com/model/...oll-holder would solve the alignment issues?
Look for a used Zebra LP2844 if you are needing to print regularly, it is a workhorse and you don't need a label holder.

Protip for these: UPS will send you free labels that work perfectly in these. I got a roll of 1000 and use them for everything, from shipping fedex to putting labels on totes.

I think that should help with the vibration based misalignment, but a lot of the misalignment issue is also caused by the roll sliding side to side on the rod the roll is on as well with this particular printer. Not sure why this one struggles with this since it uses a single roller that runs the length of the printer, so I would think it should pull consistently across the whole label, but it just, doesn't. I really only tend to have the issue when trying to print 10+ pages/copies of a label at once though, doesn't seem to happen when printing singles. At least in my experience.

Yea, why not! That's the spirit. Buy things because.
The entire economy would collapse if we stopped doing that. 😁

Just kidding... Sort of...

What's a better alternative with wifi or Bluetooth?
FYI for those wanting wifi/bt but plan to print from computer, you should know that that wireless functionality is typically just for printing from smartphone with exclusive app.

You can print wirelessly w/o wifi/bt by plugging in USB to router or raspberry pi and using the node as a wireless print server. Drivers ymmv

Just did a Google, ChatGPT and Amazon search on this last week. Munbyn thermal printers with USB/Bluetooth seem to be a consistent choice for home offices. I never heard of the brand, but it is the best seller around $80 for the 4x6 printer. Brother and Dymo thermal printers might be better, but are $150-200. There were very few complaints about the Munbyn.

I came here to see if there is a current deal, but don't see one.

Thanks. In for 1. Will be useful for when I don't have access to the printer at work (like during summer/winter break).

See, that's the issue. I might need one once a month or every other month. I can use my copier, but it sometimes misfeeds thick label stock, and individual labels are pretty expensive. If I can print a case for $1.50 that fixes the issue(w) with this printer, it's a bargain compared to $100+ for a used printer.

As a owner of many thermal printers, who rely on them for business, I would avoid cheap ones. Even the big name brands such as Rollo are prone to be very picky on thermal labels and wears out within a few years. Currently, I am using this Phomemo model and highly recommend it. Don't go for the cheaper model, the print quality is subpar.

Maybe we got an exception, but our 4+ year Rollo is going strong with daily use.
