This watch notwithstanding (I don't know anything about it), this company is mostly marketing and slapping overpriced price tags on watches assembled from bargain bin parts. You'd do much better with any Seiko or Citizen at the same price points.

- All watches are marketed…..that's how they are sold

- Many, in fact most Seikos and Citizens are overpriced and built to a price

- I don't know of any limited edition Seiko or Citizens that are ISO-rated dive watches resistant to 20 bar.

- The Prospex line would be 20 bar rated, but not limited, numbered editions and would be north of $350……this watch is $150.

- This watch is running a Seiko automatic movement and comes with a 2 year warranty like many microbrands.

- Generally Seikos and Citizens are not mentioned when folks are looking for quality watches that punch above their weight.

Finally, 'you'd be better off' with any Zelos, Armida, Helson, Revelot, Helm, Baltic or San Martin before you buy a Seiko or Citizen if you're looking for watches that are limited, hold their value and punch far above their weight.
A bit touchy, eh?

Pointless argument since MVMT is no where close to Seiko or Citizen. It's a junk fashion watch brand. They've been called out for selling aliexpress watches with their logos.

IMHO this price feels "right" not "slick". MVMT appears to be taking the Invicta model and maybe doing it a little better than invicta does (clone popular watches, mark down inflated MSRPs etc). It's a decent spec, but being "limited edition" feels pointless at this price/quality point, and there are plenty of respected brands building Seiko movement based watches for similar prices that are well known.

While all companies market their products, MMVT has historically been critized for over-hyping their line-up; breathlessly positioning it as a luxury brand akin to Rolex, Tag Huer, Omega, etc. They are in reality absurdly overpriced, made-in-China pieces that are usually mediocre in terms of materials, build quality and with uninspired, derivative designs.

Having said that, some brands dismissed by the watch enthusiast community have the occasional diamond in the rough in their line up (e.g. Fossil). Especially if you can cut through the marketing hype, ignore the detractors and find them on sale. This looks like a genuinely handsome watch powered by the well-regarded Seiko NH38 automatic (i.e. mechanical self-winding) movement. The mineral glass crystal is nothing special, but not at all unexpected or outrageous at this price point. Assuming the ISO 20Bar diver certification is legit, this is a solid buy. Just don't expect to impress any of your watch snobs friends at the next dinner party.

I haven't looked at any of MMVT's marketing materials lately. If they can drop their pretentiousness and continue offering pieces like this at this price point, they could shed their well-earned notoriety and regain respect within the watch enthusiast community.

Yes, I think he is. As a collector, when we hear people mention Seiko and Citizens as watches to buy, we gringe. There are collectible, high quality Seikos, no Citizens though and anyone looking at a $150 watch isn't thinking investor-grade. LOL

And Seikos under $500 are notorious for bad builds. Poorly aligned hands, bezels, chapter rings…..just hate when newbies give bad advice….
You can get solid pre-owned/vintage Seikos for under $500 though.

What heritage/history does MVMT have? That honestly factors into the price as well.

As a collector myself, my opinion is you have no idea what you're talking about. Only the most pretentious and close minded "collectors" would cringe at someone recommending Seiko/Citizen.
