Am I thinking of older tech or is 5640 RPM astoundingly slow?

It's not an SSD or NVME M.2 drive. Older 3.5" -- good for storage. Functional for PLEX server, but not ideal.

Would be good for backups, ect, but of course a used enterprise drive is supposed to be better.

It is but for storage purposes this is fine. Definitely not boot OS drive. The 7200 rpm drives are a lot louder even if they are a little faster.

It's a common speed range for storage drives. Faster drives are usually 7200 at least.

It's $161 now. $20/tb is insane. Get used enterprise drives. You can get them for less than $10/tb usually and they're going to be superior so long as smart data is looking good.

The 10tb and 12tb are boosted to 7200rpm. No idea what that means for sound though.

Buy used enterprise drives for a nas. This is overpriced and under performing.

Check the recent pricing for new hdd

Figure that as people try to fall back to avoid the costs of more modern storage, the demand for all other platforms is increasing. I went to buy a sata ssd for boot drive and something that would have cost me $40 a couple of months ago, now costs me $75

I wish I had caught this deal in time
