And you'd just ignore all the test results, use case examples from actual shop use and generally honest feedback because you have something against people who have been on TV? From previous episodes I've seen, he usually gives pretty clear and detailed explanations on why he likes/uses something which gives you more a informed decision if it's something you could use.

Seems strange to just dismiss experienced opinion because of that.

Adam actually does a really great job at NOT pushing products. He shares his real world uses and makes recommedations based on his experiences as a maker.

Weird Mandela Effect, but my entire life I thought this was "Benzomatic" with no "r" (like the root word for Benzene, for example)

Merry 47th Christmas to me!

Now off to read some Benstain Bears to my kids

I just spent 10 minutes researching previous threads.

"Adam Savage from Tested's favorite things this year"

Some idiots asked if it was good for automotive. Laugh at them. Also, no.

Good for crafts and kitchen. Probably great for heat shrink tubing, but just get a heat gun?

Plumbing is iffy. I'm not a plumber but I've sweat a few pipes. I don't think this puts out a large or hot enough flame, and the trail is long. It's just not designed for that, but you can probably get away with it.

I got one of those TS8000s for $35 back in 2023 -- that was a great deal.

$25 is an all time low. Smash buy if you want it. I could see it hitting $20 on clearance but we might never see that.

These are pretty cheaply made. I'm rocking a TS8000 now, but the first year with my wood stove I used it to light my fires, lasted about one season. TS8000 is the gold standard and I wouldn't deal with anything else.

Very useful tool. The ergonomics of this heat gun is literally 1000x better than trying to manipulate the entire propane tank into awkward plumbing behind walls, under vanities or toilets. Furthermore, the flame is consistent and doesn't have issues with the propane sloshing in tank when soldering.

This came in super handy in resoldering a trombone and trumpet. Great for around 400 to 600 F applications.

I feel the same about Oprah, I refuse to read anything that is on her recommended book club list. Anything she shills for I wouldn't like, so I understand the sentiment.
HOWEVER Adam is less a shill than most out there...

I don't think this would be useful for the average home mechanic or garage mechanic. If you do a lot of this work you likely have a better torch for sweating pipes any ways or a oxyfuel setup if you are more serious. But I would imagine that this would be exceptionally useful for a hobbyist or tinkerer. I can think of several things I have done in the past few days that this would have been useful for; P-tex ski repairs, had a ski edge I wanted to silver soldier but couldn't get a hot and precise enough flame off my torch, had a partially stripped bolt on a hand plane that some precise heat would have helped remove without risking warping it. I have a butane torch that works ok but it can be hard to maneuver.
