No, it should be less. The tablet is already 3 months of data, so don't need to pay more for it. The phones can switch to $35 / mo plan for 2nd month, so just $70 more. So total $190 unlocked after 2 months.

Similarly,
some people might have this in their Amex Offers:
Straight Talk - Smartphones, Prepaid Plans & More
Spend $45 or more, earn $20

1 phone + 1 tab is $90 (+ tax)
2 phones + 1 tab is $120 (+ tax)

Tab comes with 3 month service and it is already unlocked
For the phones, We need another 1 month service. We can use $35 bronze plan to unlock it

Amex $20 back /Chase 15% has offers

(Very few people has success with buying Walmart $25 Straight Talk top up card & there are some, who rebranded the phone to Tracfone and then bought 90 days plan for $20 and unlocked the phone)

Tab promotion is limited to one per account

Can I port my number in from boost mobile?

Also can I port out and a months later port back in on the other phone?

That way the phones both get unlocked and you don't pay for service on a number you are not actually using.

The Moto will end at Android 16. Samsung will update to 19 at least.
That said, I have an A16 and it's slow at everyday operations like opening the Settings. Debloating helps but not enough.
I had a Moto G 5G 2022, and it saddens me that they will no longer update it (last update was in early 2025). It's like taking a perfectly good phone and tossing it in the trash, now repeat that hundreds of thousands of times. After that I decided no more Moto purpose built to dispose e-waste. I don't care if the Moto has extra RAM, what good will it do if you get no more security updates, and are forced to upgrade.

As a side note now I now have an A26. I debloated, and it feels pretty snappy. Not bad at all. Maybe you need to debloat more? Maybe the extra 2gb of RAM makes a huge difference? I'm not sure.

No need to toss the phone. That's your decision. I'm still using '20/'21/'22/'23 Motos and have an LG and a Samsung a23 available if needed.

Is the Samsung A16 crappy compared to the Moto Stylus?
Curious as I only seen deal threads for the moto and like none for the A16
The A1n series is budget-tier, minimum A2n if you're inclined towards Samsung. Choose the Stylus, hands down.

So I am safe to right now go on there and choose change my plan to 35 plan even with ~27 days left in first billing cycle?
Quote from shark974 :
ok this is what i was worried about, when i look at my account, looking to prepay the 30 2nd month in advance, it seems to have change your plan and keep current plan as the only options. i am worried if i choose change plan, it will prorate me down to 30 plan the rest of this month and therefore i could be charged the 199 for the phone since i'm no longer keeping silver plan conditions. anybody know what to do? it could even do this day 30, so i'm thinking only way to be safe is just leave 45 plan on autopay?

also ppl referred 30 plan i only see 35 cheapest
Bronze plan is the cheapest. No need to renew quickly. Wait till less than a week and ST may offer you a coupon/discount. Also continuous service is not required, you wait for the first month to lapse. Leave autopay off until your purchase 2nd month, only $1 discount though.

CB sites will pay for multiple activations on separate orders... I've done this, as I am sure others have.

However $30? No idea there, as I haven't done it for that site. And as I mentioned, I tend to go more for the sure thing vs higher paying sites.
Is the $30 R* or someone else? thanks

It doesn't seem to be who I thought it was, so not entirely sure. Or perhaps that offer ended.

Been playing with the tablet a bit, and it's fine for the price (after cb + value of plans, basically free). It does make a decent e-reader, especially for comics. I remembered I had a set of Miracleman + From Hell in my Kindle acct, from years ago, and gave those a try, and they look pretty good. I have found ipads too bright for reading, kindle e-ink too dim/weird (and no good for comics), and my old 7" FireHDX was okay, but a little small. So it does seem to serve a purpose.

What I don't like, and is likely just a 'me' issue, is that the edges of the tablet aren't tapered. So they kind of jab into my fingers after a while with the square edges. Not a major thing, but a little annoying.

continuous service is required according to multiple sources including ST themselves, a lapse resets the clock

at a quick glance, both oled, a16 weaker cpu and the straight talk version has 4gb ram. so, not even close to the stylus (8gb ram, better chip)

the 8gb ram vs 4gb thing is decisive. as 4gb is just not acceptable in 2025.

plus the a16 has very dated looking bezels and camera cutout.
if resale is your play, Samsungs are much easier to move

Probably, as long as you're leaving ST, then going back, and you're okay with a slightly higher per-device-unlocked cost

My experience has been the same, doesn't have to be continuous (as long as you don't wait too long).
It's likely they talked to a poorly trained rep - there's a lot that don't have a clue & give out incorrect information.

Is it a fact that the $25 plan won't work, and how do we know?
Is the conversion to Total for the second month possible for the unlock?
I can confirm these work with Total Wireless sims without unlock. I wonder if I use it on an existing total wireless plan if that will allow for unlock after 2 months. Anyone have any idea?

All the TW, ST & TF sims work if service is active - but can stop abruptly if phone isn't registered/activated correctly.

Again, Phones require 60 days of new paid service to unlock once the phone is registered on any of the brands - carry over service won't count so existing plan doesn't qualify. Even if it were a TW phone carryover service wouldn't count towards unlock.

Playing around with sim only causes problems, it's possible your phone could get automatically registered to wrong system - best to leave it in the original phone before you screw up the unlock.
