I'm guessing here, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with the ability to dissolve oils And some things are more sensitive to different concentrations of oil, surface coatings etc.

Be aware that most alcohol wipes will eventually wipe off the coatings you paid for, like oleophobic coatings.

Yes, and that's why this uses a lower amount. My guess is 40-50%.

Trade-off but safer than 70%. Never use 99% unless it's a true emergency.

Even 50% would strip them. Possibly half of that would be ok. Whenever possible, soap and water and a cotton cloth is the best. Microfiber cloth works unless they are very oily.

I used them for a while. They are great for travel use but the unnecessary disposable nature rubbed me the wrong way.
I switched to Target brand lens spray and it works very well. Spray, rub off stains with finger and rise with water. Works great

To be fair, I've never seen oleophobic coatings last longer than 3-6 months anyways.

Could anyone provide an alternative that will NOT shorten the life of the oleophobic coatings?

Just oleophobic coating or also the plastic coating of the lens?
