Samsung's S90F is a bright QD OLED TV that stands out for punchy color, strong HDR performance, and especially good dark room picture quality. The 77 inch model is the QD OLED version, and the newer panel is often described as a step up for color luminance and overall impact. The main tradeoffs are no Dolby Vision, possible raised blacks in bright rooms, and some concern about Samsung panel quality and support. Pricing also appears inconsistent, with tax sometimes added at checkout and direct Samsung or open box options sometimes landing close to the deal price.
Movie fans watching mostly in dark rooms, because the QD-OLED panel delivers strong HDR color and brightness when ambient light is low.
Daytime streamers with a bright living room, because the panel stays punchy and bright enough to compensate for imperfect blacks.
Gamers and sports viewers who want vivid color volume, because the QD-OLED panel can produce noticeably richer colors than WOLED alternatives.
Shoppers who want a calibrated premium OLED for mixed streaming use, because the set can look accurate after calibration and still handle HDR well.
People who rely on Dolby Vision for their library, because this model uses HDR10 and HDR10+ instead.
Viewers in bright rooms with direct reflections, because ambient light can raise black levels and reduce OLED contrast.
Owners who want a TV that looks right without tweaking, because picture and motion modes can be hard to dial in.
Buyers who need dependable long-term support, because Samsung repair and warranty handling can become slow and frustrating.

As a matter of fact one of the best things you can do to take the most advantage of all this performance is have your display calibrated.
Just look at the pre & post calibration results on this comparison.

But - it's a sale on still what I think is a great TV. So what if it's not perfect blacks b/c it's being made up for its brightness, and while the night time view would be better with say a C5, the TV is going to be on a good amount of its life even during the day where my living room is bright.
I'm so excited to receive this thing!
That better PQ comes at a cost.
Now whether it's worth the cost, is a completely different topic & a personal choice.

Once you finish watching the full video, you'll receive a 10% discount. The discounted price will automatically reflect with the 10% reduction.
So it will be $1619, just $20 more but buying it direct might be safer. And I am sure there is definitely some Cashback site to recover that $20 😄
I have a feeling that as long as I don't put the C5 and S90F side by side (which I never will), I'd probably be impressed with either one.
There are 2 key reasons C5 performs better in bright rooms. Perhaps the main one is S90F's black levels raise to disappointing levels of gray in a daylit room, killing the contrast. Infinite contrast is one of the main advantages of OLED. See "Ambient Black Level Raise" in their review: S90F got a terrible score (~5) while C5 got nearly perfect.
The other important reason is with SDR content: the C5 is much brighter. But both TVs are equally bright with HDR.
But be sure to do a real reboot after each update.
I unplugged mine to do a soft boot and it fixed all of my issues with the APPs.
However below is what I found online.
Soft Reset: Unplug the TV from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.
2
Using the Remote: Press and hold the power button on the remote for about 10 seconds until the TV turns off and then back on.
2
Factory Reset: Go to Settings > General > Reset, enter your PIN (default is "0000"), and follow the on-screen instructions.
1
Cold Boot: For a cold boot, unplug the TV, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

These methods can help resolve performance issues and refresh the system.

Using the Settings Menu: Navigate to Settings > General > Reset to Initial Settings. This will reset the TV to factory settings, which can help with persistent issues.

Hard Reset: If the TV is unresponsive, you can perform a hard reset by pressing and holding the Power button on the TV itself for about 10 seconds.

Odd that they would only be willing to sell to a small subset of people if there's profit to be made in the competitive 65" size. The C5 has had more consistent sales.
Watch that video of a side by side comparison. Numbers on paper don't tell the whole story. The s90f is the better overall TV. There are a few scenes the C5 looks better/brighter, but it cannot overcome the advantage of the QD panel. The color luminance the s90f is capable of is 2-2.5x that of the c5 for some colors. That difference is something you will notice.
They are both capable of providing accurate skin tones if calibrated properly. If you haven't seen a lot of panels in person you won't know the difference either way and should get whatever is cheaper.

- Before a repair tech will show up at your house, you have to unmount the TV yourself. So I had to enlist my neighbor to take it off the wall before they would schedule an appointment. Just kind of annoying.
- I described the issues in detail, none of which got communicated to the repair vendor prior to their arrival.
- The repair vendor is unresponsive and the communication between them and Samsung is atrocious.
- The Samsung people will not allow you to conference the repair vendor into a phone call because it's against "policy."
- Samsung has different departments for warranty, repair pending and Care+. They seem to have no interaction with each other and provide vastly different information.
- Until you get the Office of the President, no one has a direct number, extension, email address, etc. So you'll have to repeat your entire story to every single person you speak to.
If I can prevent one single person from going through this hellacious process, spending the time to write this would've been worth it.Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.
I have a 2018 LG B8 and a 2023 Samsung S90C and both are great, but if I was buying now, given my preference for cloud gaming, that'd push me to the LG.
