Samsung's S90F is a bright QD OLED TV that stands out for punchy color, strong HDR performance, and especially good dark room picture quality. The 77 inch model is the QD OLED version, and the newer panel is often described as a step up for color luminance and overall impact. The main tradeoffs are no Dolby Vision, possible raised blacks in bright rooms, and some concern about Samsung panel quality and support. Pricing also appears inconsistent, with tax sometimes added at checkout and direct Samsung or open box options sometimes landing close to the deal price.

From personal experience I would completely agree, you would only notice the subtle differences side by side.

As a matter of fact one of the best things you can do to take the most advantage of all this performance is have your display calibrated.
Just look at the pre & post calibration results on this comparison.
https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...8602/92237
Thanks, brother. I do plan on spending the time for calibration. It's funny I ended up going with the S90F b/c the first review of it was a guy showing it side-by-side to the S90D saying how it was a downgrade from it and shame on Samsung.
But - it's a sale on still what I think is a great TV. So what if it's not perfect blacks b/c it's being made up for its brightness, and while the night time view would be better with say a C5, the TV is going to be on a good amount of its life even during the day where my living room is bright.

I'm so excited to receive this thing!

This is a good price. Sony needs to get a clue with their prices.

Would disagree. S90 is a great TV and the S95 is not worth the additional money for most people.
have you had both? I have/do. if you havent, then your just guessing.

Their processing is better, producing a better/accurate picture.
That better PQ comes at a cost.

Now whether it's worth the cost, is a completely different topic & a personal choice.

On Samsung site, with EPP or Edu discount, it's $1799. You will get an additional 10% discount watching the following.
https://www.samsung.com/us/tvs/vision-ai-tv/

Once you finish watching the full video, you'll receive a 10% discount. The discounted price will automatically reflect with the 10% reduction.

So it will be $1619, just $20 more but buying it direct might be safer. And I am sure there is definitely some Cashback site to recover that $20 😄

I feel like you have it backwards. I was under the impression that the S90F does better in brightly lit, and the C5 better for night time.

I have a feeling that as long as I don't put the C5 and S90F side by side (which I never will), I'd probably be impressed with either one.
My reasoning is based mainly on rting's results, as I too haven't seen them side by side either and agree I'd be very impressed with both.

There are 2 key reasons C5 performs better in bright rooms. Perhaps the main one is S90F's black levels raise to disappointing levels of gray in a daylit room, killing the contrast. Infinite contrast is one of the main advantages of OLED. See "Ambient Black Level Raise" in their review: S90F got a terrible score (~5) while C5 got nearly perfect.

The other important reason is with SDR content: the C5 is much brighter. But both TVs are equally bright with HDR.

Both TVs excellent!

But be sure to do a real reboot after each update.

I unplugged mine to do a soft boot and it fixed all of my issues with the APPs.

However below is what I found online.

Quote :
To reboot your Samsung TV, you can follow these methods:
Soft Reset: Unplug the TV from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.
2
Using the Remote: Press and hold the power button on the remote for about 10 seconds until the TV turns off and then back on.
2
Factory Reset: Go to Settings > General > Reset, enter your PIN (default is "0000"), and follow the on-screen instructions.
1
Cold Boot: For a cold boot, unplug the TV, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

These methods can help resolve performance issues and refresh the system.

Unplugging: Disconnect the TV from the power outlet, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. This method can help resolve more complicated issues.
2
Using the Settings Menu: Navigate to Settings > General > Reset to Initial Settings. This will reset the TV to factory settings, which can help with persistent issues.
2
Hard Reset: If the TV is unresponsive, you can perform a hard reset by pressing and holding the Power button on the TV itself for about 10 seconds.

These methods can help resolve performance issues and refresh the system for a smoother viewing experience.

Looking for a 65 for like $1200, it seems you have to put in a bid or something? Never heard of this site.

If you have edu or EPP account and using the 10% discount link posted above, you can get 65 inch for $1133 plus tax from Samsung directly.

Yes I did this last week after missing out on the early December deals. I also recommend using the chat to ask about Samsung Care+. The rep will likely help you get 2 years free Smilie.

No EPP or EDU, seems like everyone on here finds a way to fake them.

Odd that they would only be willing to sell to a small subset of people if there's profit to be made in the competitive 65" size. The C5 has had more consistent sales.

So if I'm mostly watching YouTube or basic TV, the C5 is far superior and the one to get ? I am mostly interested in a bright picture and especially accurate color in the face tones.
https://youtu.be/FKolSFcsCpo?si=JY8A85qR0IpNKARR

Watch that video of a side by side comparison. Numbers on paper don't tell the whole story. The s90f is the better overall TV. There are a few scenes the C5 looks better/brighter, but it cannot overcome the advantage of the QD panel. The color luminance the s90f is capable of is 2-2.5x that of the c5 for some colors. That difference is something you will notice.

They are both capable of providing accurate skin tones if calibrated properly. If you haven't seen a lot of panels in person you won't know the difference either way and should get whatever is cheaper.

S90F 77 should be QD-OLED, other sizes, bottom smaller and 83 are WOLED made by LG. QD OLED should have better picture quality, but easier to have burn in, but whatever, i have it for a year (S90D) and loves it.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I bought this TV from Samsung directly via the EPP deal in late summer and here is my anecdotal takeaway: I'd NEVER buy this TV or anything else made by Samsung ever again. It died prior to being 3 months old, and despite me purchasing the 3 year Care+ Program, they were a nightmare to deal with. It was not the power supply, but they assumed it was, so the first repair person couldn't fix it. I've spent 30+ hours trying to figure out from Samsung and their 3rd party repair people how to get this rectified. The part they need (main controller) was delivered to the repair people, then found out that wasn't true and it is backordered per Samsung. Repair people say it was cancelled by Samsung. I worked my way up to the Samsung Office of the President and after 3 weeks of arguing, they're willing to refund me the initial purchase price. TV is still sitting in my living room and they can't tell me when they're picking it up or when I'm getting the refund. Absolutely some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I bought the 77" Panasonic last week and have been as happy with that picture as the Samsung. Some other notes:
  1. Before a repair tech will show up at your house, you have to unmount the TV yourself. So I had to enlist my neighbor to take it off the wall before they would schedule an appointment. Just kind of annoying.
  2. I described the issues in detail, none of which got communicated to the repair vendor prior to their arrival.
  3. The repair vendor is unresponsive and the communication between them and Samsung is atrocious.
  4. The Samsung people will not allow you to conference the repair vendor into a phone call because it's against "policy."
  5. Samsung has different departments for warranty, repair pending and Care+. They seem to have no interaction with each other and provide vastly different information.
  6. Until you get the Office of the President, no one has a direct number, extension, email address, etc. So you'll have to repeat your entire story to every single person you speak to.
If I can prevent one single person from going through this hellacious process, spending the time to write this would've been worth it.

this or 77" LG C5?
Potentially very niche use case, but given the newer model LG OLEDs have native GeForce Now app supporting 120FPS and samsung is limited to 60FPS, that'd be enough for me to go wtih the C5.

I have a 2018 LG B8 and a 2023 Samsung S90C and both are great, but if I was buying now, given my preference for cloud gaming, that'd push me to the LG.
