Generally speaking the reason they say that is because this is not rated for maximum current for hours on end even if it is rated for the amount of current you would draw. Level One charging even a tiny battery takes most of the night. If you want to buy one and test it out feel free to leave a comment on the Amazon reviews but I strongly recommend 12/3 or larger (smaller numbers) for continual use (as I use at this length to overnight charge a PHEV)

Residential outlet is wired with a solid copper wire while this one is a stranded wire which has higher resistance, more heat generated and lower current capacity. Cords are for short term use only.

Not for EV is a lie, if you're using a Level 1 charger. This is the maximum amp pull out of a standard residential outlet.

Frost resistant? Had some issues with insulation breaking on Harbor Freight tools in the cold.

Decent price but I agree with holysin that 12/3 or bigger is a better size for use around the house.

Is this overkill for next year's Christmas lights? I know 16 would be good enough but idk if this is cheap nowadays. Haven't bought a cable in years

False. Modern home outlets pull 20A and are 12AWG [especially in kitchens and high wattage applications]. this is 15A rated and 14AWG. Your Level 1 charger pulls a lot of wattage. It'll work, but it's not rated for it.

20 amp T-plugs are not common. Maybe in newer houses, but even in the newer ones I've seen, they still use 15A.

Decent deal, but MSRP at Amazon is inflated as the regular price at my local Walmart is $11 and change.

Just remodeled my kitchen. Nothing but 20 amp. Tier 1 chargers use more than any kitchen appliance. Seems you're going to ignore everyone's warnings so just be careful and check to make sure your wire isn't getting warm.

FYI: I have a Tier 1 Plug-in as well. Wired to a 20 AMP outlet that I had installed specifically for my plug-in. Not speaking with theoretical knowledge here, this is actual experience.

A 12/3 is what I bought 6 months ago to exclusively charge my EV from a 15A outdoor circuit using a level 1 charger. No issues. Currently $18.

Thanks. Don't have an EV but a lighted 14 G for under $10? Sure, throw one in the cart!
