It's not that. Unfortunately, Amazon let's items from different sellers co-mingle.

Say you have 5 vendors selling this knife on Amazon. And say 2 of those sellers are bad actors selling counterfeit knives. All five companies send their inventory to Amazon to ship from Amazon warehouses. All those knives come in and get dumped in one single bin.

If you then buy one, will the Amazon worker be pulling out a genuine item for you? Or will they be pulling out a counterfeit to ship to you?

If it's being distributed through an Amazon warehouse it very well could be. It's not like they're sent to kershaw for inspection then sent to the Amazon warehouse. They come straight from China. This is true of all brands, and is how you end up with knockoff microSD cards among other things
