Bad take. Pads are significantly more expensive, harder to source (Honeywell doesn't sell directly), harder to apply( need proper mounting pressure) and might not work as well if you have a water cooled loop (ptm needs to heat up to ~45° to melt properly). Thermal paste is just fine and performs similarly. Ptm does have it's benefits but it isn't a straight up replacement.

People still use thermal paste even after all the testing of thermal pads blowing it out of the water? Psshhh peasants!
When I built my last two systems I finally said dealing with paste is enough and used thermal grizzly kryosheets. Don't have to worry about the paste drying out or anything. Was just annoying keeping sheets in place as I seated the coolers.

I fix up old computers as a hobby, paste is much cheaper per application. I thought paste still performed better, just that pads in theory last longer? Maybe my knowledge is dated. But yeah pads have their uses for sure.

Not all pads are created equal I should've been more specific. The PTM pads are what I was referring to.

PTM is quite expensive, though. But, then again, I've seen a lot of reports that the (probably knockoff, much cheaper) PTM from AliExpress is actually really good.

Sorry for sounding like a dumb user but would this be applicable to gaming console like PS4 and Xbox One? I have disassembled it no problem however I am concerned about removing original dry thermal paste that needs to be scrapped(?) or "cleaned" before putting a new thermal paste. Saw this deal and thought I should jump on it but wanted to be extra certain. Thoughts?

I am no expert, but I was always told to clean them with isopropyl alcohol and q-tips. You want to get all of it off before re-applying.
I used to fix XB360s for side cash, most of which were RROD errors, and that was the process I used to clean the CPU and GPU up before installing the new X-clips. Again, I am no expert and was just following what the internet said was "best practices" at the time.

rubbing alcohol and coffee filters work well for removing paste.
Even though this is half price, why even try it when there are bad reviews? Well known pastes aren't that much more and the labor alone to redo it is already worth the cost. Are you really going to spend all that money on a PC then cheap out on a crucial part of cooling?

The newer Honeywell PTM pads perform better but if we're being honest, unless you're a heavy overclocker, it doesn't really matter. It costs way more too and it sucks to apply, plus Honeywell doesn't do consumer sales for it, so you're just gambling on random third party merchants.
I got it to try it out and it's been nice, but the application was a nightmare and it costs like 10x as much as paste even if you account for savings from not having to reapply.

Echoing this same thought. I recently used some cheap thermal paste I got off eBay on an old laptop with overheating issues, and it's still running hot, so now I'm left wondering if better paste will resolve the issue. Artic MX-4 is only $5.50 on Amazon and highly reviewed (4.8 stars), so I'll probably get that.
For a couple bucks more, get something you know will work.

Mostly, I just support saying "CPU Processors", in the way one might impress others by saying "ATM Machines".
