It MAY approach $20, but last year I played the waiting game into February and ended up paying $30, the best price at that time

I'd jump on it. No point to waste time and effort on keeping track of sales to save a couple of bucks. It is splitting pennies here, but technically, if you are due a refund of any meaningful amount, you may as well file early(ier) and earn an extra buck or two in a savings account or a CD.

Yes, H&R does cost extra to e-file your state return. Either print and mail it like others have suggested or do what I do. My state (Kansas) has free e-file. I use the H&R state return to fill out the free online form on the state website. Check if your state has free e-file. It's better than making a trip to the post office.

Same here. No point in paying $15+ to e-file State when the alternative cost is a postage stamp.
Personally, it's worth the cost for me. $15 to keep from printing it out and going to the post office. That has a cost too.

2 week wait is not bad worth the savings imo even if using certified mail to be safe if you are close to the deadline. States like NY have free state file by law (thanks Mamdani), not sure if there are others so look yours up.
Last year some had to wait months in their Federal paper filings. For myself it's worth the $2-10 in future savings for the peace of mind on filing electronically and very early in the year

Well, depending on your state, paper filing might require 30+ printouts and several dollars in postage (much more for certified), then an anxious waiting game. That's why I gladly pay the $20 for efile.

I usually get a state refund and owe money to the Feds, so getting that refund quickly and waiting til 4/15 to pay DC is a fair tradeoff.
Fair enough. Once you are getting past a certain amount pages the savings out weigh the hassle.

I have not seen any deals on Amazon yet and they typically have them this time of year. I only mention it because I tend to use all of my slow shipping credits from the holidays to buy at a reduced and/or $0 out-of-pocket cost if Amazon has a decent price.
You missed Deluxe @ $26 (+$4 w/ State): https://slickdeals.net/f/18891382-h-r-block-tax-software-deluxe-2025-win-mac-pc-mac-online-code-50-off-25-99?src=SiteSearch

Last year was the first time I paid to efile State and will do it again this year. Easier, faster, no paper, no printer ink wasted, no driving to USPS waiting in line and paying for postage... And knowing it arrived and accepted is gratifying.

Anyone know for sure what premium does over deluxe? I recall reading somewhere that there is nothing premium does that deluxe does not do but that seems silly. My taxes are complicated this year due to a small inheritance involving inherited IRAs etc.

I've always paid for deluxe + state and then been frustrated about paying to e-file. For those of you who mail your state, do you still buy deluxe + state? Or do you pay for vanilla deluxe?
Last year, I got "Vanilla" Deluxe and then just filed online on MyFTB (in my case). Was very easy, just a bit of data entry.
This year, I got Fed+State, but will file the state part online again, just makes it easier to have all the state numbers already transferred and ready for entry.

No need for e-filing fee or stamp.

I have no clue what you are trying to say, but I doubt we are related.

The lowest Deluxe + State got last year was $18 on a YMMV Target in-store deal. In mid-January they had a deal where it was $20 after a bundle with some retail gift cards but there weren't a lot of good choices in the available cards. In late January NewEgg had it standalone for $23.

I bought it here at $25, close enough.

$25 close enough for me. I am in. $26.67 after tax. Not worth the wait to save maybe $2. I doubt you will ever see $20 again.
