It MAY approach $20, but last year I played the waiting game into February and ended up paying $30, the best price at that time

I'd jump on it. No point to waste time and effort on keeping track of sales to save a couple of bucks. It is splitting pennies here, but technically, if you are due a refund of any meaningful amount, you may as well file early(ier) and earn an extra buck or two in a savings account or a CD.

FreetaxUSA is $0 or $15 with state, and won't force you to upgrade to premium for extra forms for more complex taxes. (crypto requires filing 1099-DA this year. Or if you had rental property the deluxe probably doesn't have the correct forms).
If you had a business then I could see using H&R block premium business.

Deluxe + State has handled rental properties (Sched E) in previous years.

The lowest Deluxe + State got last year was $18 on a YMMV Target in-store deal. In mid-January they had a deal where it was $20 after a bundle with some retail gift cards but there weren't a lot of good choices in the available cards. In late January NewEgg had it standalone for $23.

I bought it here at $25, close enough.
Tell me how many things you have bought in the last year where the price dropped? This deal is a out as good as it will get this year within a buck or two.

I believe it still costs extra to actually file state, if my memory is correct.
Only to e-file

2 week wait is not bad worth the savings imo even if using certified mail to be safe if you are close to the deadline. States like NY have free state file by law (thanks Mamdani), not sure if there are others so look yours up.
That was with using certified mail.

You can download the software for 1 state for free. Filing the state by mail is free. Some states (like mine) have a website where you can type in the numbers and e-file for free So I just print it as a PDF, log into my state's website, copy down the numbers from the PDF and submit it electronically for free. Takes me 10 minutes maybe. For me that's faster and cheaper than driving to the post office, waiting in line and paying for a trackable postage.

If I file joint with my wife, can I do it with one? Or do I need to buy two of these?

Joint file is one federal e-filing, and you get 5 e-files.

Can't believe all these thumbs up… On this price point.

Historically, this is a very bad price…
But I guess some believe that this price will not go any lower… But history often proves that it will.

Newegg sort of screwed everybody last year by Holding firm on a higher price… And all of these people purchasing now are only reinforcing newegg to keep their prices high… Thank you in advance for screwing the rest of us when 1099's and W-2's won't be sent out until late January/early February.

To those posting that this is a great deal… You need to turn in your slickdeal membership

Hmmm..... I have 10 bux in Amazon shipping credits, and HR Block Deluxe is $42 @ Amazon currently. Does anyone have a memory of Amazon sales in past years? Did they drop their price by half around this time in past years? If they do that this season and I use the 10 bux shipping credits, I should be able to snag it on Amazon for around 10 bux vs the Newegg deal of $20. I misplaced my crystal ball, so maybe someone here has some ideas.

I need some advice. I have always used TurboTax to file income tax returns. But it's expensive. Is it a good idea for me to try out the H&R Premium to file joint federal taxes? I have W2s and will receive documents from Robinhood and Webull. Thanks!
I switched over many years ago. Imported the last TT file from the previous year with no issues. Haven't had any issues since. The Deluxe+State handles most people's returns just fine. If you're self-employed maybe look at the other ones. The software interface looks old school, but the interview style questions and how the stuff is organized seemed pretty similar (at least back when I switched).

Will the fed/state price get any better before April?
Prior to last year, yes. I chose to wait and since it never dropped further, ended up biting the bullet and tried out FreeTaxUSA. Slightly more painful to use since I could not load 1099s from my brokerages, but the UI is actually better. I was a satisfied customer with HR Block for 20 years, but I won't be back, unfortunately.
