It's crazy how monthly subscription has taken over what ever happened to the pay for lifetime service this gets dumb especially knowing people don't hike trek or are doing outdoors adventuring on the outback or deserts 🏜️ everyday of their lives

FYI: Garmin released the inReach Mini 3 this month and this is discontinued. Still a really great product.

It does require a subscription to use, which starts at $8/mo with $40 activation fee.

You can suspend it for up to 12mo right now. They had taken away the suspension of the plan for a while. If you cancel it, you will have to pay activation again.

Thinking about it. I do a lot of backpacking in the sierras and strong enough to not get injured doing off trail shenanigans but ya never know

The lowest plan is pay per use on top of the monthly.
If you can juggle which months are active, $8/mo isn't bad.
Or risk it and just use a modern iphone.
