18 is the premium/heavy duty product line. It makes prefect sense that the 18 chargers can do both 18 and 12, while light duty 12 line can only handle the 12. Very easy to understand.

Not that I need any more batteries but I've had one Milwaukee M12&18 combo and one M18 charger die on me and I'm getting the feeling Milwaukee battery chargers are crap! I typically use Dewalt items and I have yet to have one Dewalt charger die on me. So I'm thinking about this for another back up charger.

Anyone find it hypocritical that the M18 charger charges 18 and 12 but the M12 chargers only chargers 12s?
Imagine different items that do different things. Who'd have thought something so wild could happen in 2025!

M12 is geared more for lightweight compact tools. M18 is when you want more power/runtime and don't care as much about weight and size.

They are not even the same size/style of batteries. This charger just has an extra port for the 12v along with the 18v.

Ryobi, Ridgid (portable power tools) and Milwaukee are all made by the same company, TTI. However, only Ridgid offers a Lifetime replacement/repair via their Lifetime Service Agreement. Provided you register within 90 days of purchase. This includes, tool, chargers and batteries. Just be sure to re-register any replacements you get when replaced.

Regardless of which brand you are with, you could always get a Ridgid to brand X battery adapter from eBay. Usually around $20.

100% Milwaukee chargers are complete crap. Half of mine died for no reason. Most never worked out of the sealed packaging as part of kits over the years.

Odd. I've been using them for 20 years, and no duds out of 6 or 7 chargers.

Reviews on the factory website will tell you the same

Most of my duds came from battery+charger kits

If you have 20 year old chargers, then you have 20 year old chargers. A lot of bad units were put out since then with no QC.

I think you're one of the luckier ones. Even on Milwaukee's on site ratings for their chargers is poor. I'm really not sure I've ever had a Dewalt charger die on me. So even 1 out of 7 is questionable. But good for you because that's better than many.
