Does the app still don't let you add balance till you use up all the previous one first?

I believe you can only have 1 gift card loaded at a time.

You can just wait to add the new one in.

In order for a purchase to qualify for 5% cash back in this quarter's bonus categories, the purchase must post to your account by the last day of the quarter. Sometimes a merchant will charge your card on a date after you make a purchase, such as the shipping date, delivery date, or installation date, and as a result the purchase may not post to your account until after the end of the quarter.

On multiple reddit posts i've seen people say it is by transaction date. Now if a retailer ships the item later and the pending charges show a later date, you can also call chase csr and have them fix it if it misses the cashback window, as long as you have a record of the proper transaction date (because per their policy, it shouldn't go by post date). The digital giftcard posts the transaction date immediately so you will have definite proof you transacted by dec 31 and though annoying, you can dispute this if it doesn't give you the proper cashback.

(I paid and got my non refundable giftcard within 20m this morning so I can definitely dispute if they don't give cashback)

TLDR: chase uses transaction date, egift cards will post immediate transaction date, can dispute with chase showing said date if cashback doesn't post even if annoying.
***note: there is a deadline based on timezones on the last day, so earlier transaction today is safest bet...
