I will never recommend Netgear to anyone after they sold their R8000 line touting features that they later removed via firmware update when it wasn't convenient for the to support them anymore. Felt like such a scam.

If you are purchasing a new router, you should probably do a bit of research on the benefits of WiFi 7 and see if is worth it for you. IMO WiFi 7 is a pretty significant upgrade and you should be future proof for a good while.

A year ago, I bought this router for $93 used on ebay, and it's been great. It replaced a TP-Link Deco P9 Mesh. I am using the Nighthawk now to write this The latest firmware is V1.0.9.82_1 released this year. Benchmarks here [blogspot.com]. If you are in a crowded area like an apartment, the 6 GHz band may help with interference. It penetrates walls better than I expected: I can use it to the end of my driveway.

For most people, I do not recommend Wi-Fi 7. Very few devices support it, and it may not make financial sense to future-proof. In the next few years, the only devices that may add Wi-Fi 7 support are higher-end desktops, laptops, and phones. Even with support, you may see little benefit. Devices like IoT cameras and TVs are unlikely to add Wi-Fi 7 support and less likely to benefit from it.

I guess this is not intended to be mounted on a wall... those wings are bound to catch a knee.

I previously used two Netgear routers. While the hardware itself is generally decent, the Netgear Nighthawk app is one of the worst I've used in terms of UI and functionality. Most of the time, I had trouble logging into the app—even after multiple password resets. It's very buggy, lacks full control features, and is unreliable overall. The router itself would also occasionally lose connection and require a reset or app login to keep it working, which was especially frustrating when the app wouldn't let me log in at all.

I'd avoid netgear

Dewsdrops6, you're describing my situation almost exactly. I have the same kind of house, and I replaced TP Link Deco P9 mesh with three units. The single Nighthawk was an upgrade. See my earlier comment for benchmarks.
Wired is still king, but I'm happy with what the Wi-Fi can do. I needed to wire only one desktop gaming PC.
