Id avoid those 11th gen i5s.... Dog doo doo
Had one for a while, couldn't wait to replace it with Ryzen 5 version, luckily company approved and Ryzen was much better. Intel version of t14 throttles unnecessarily with no way unleash full power.
I agree. Avoid this processor unless you are getting it very light usage.

Solid machine for web browsing/school/light work apps like office. I refurbish and sell these as business seconds locally on marketplace. Not sure I would personally ever opt for an I5 for longevity and power user apps but 10,000 times better than any new Chromebook at this price.
I actually downvoted this because the "I wouldn't opt for an i5" take is kind of a tired shortcut.
On PassMark, the i5-1145G7 scores 9,257 CPU Mark, while the common T14 Gen 2 upgrades like i7-1165G7 and i7-1185G7 are 9,847 and 10,019. That's roughly a 6-8% bump, not some night-and-day "longevity" difference.
Single-thread is even closer: 2,679 (i5-1145G7) vs 2,739 (i7-1165G7) vs 2,767 (i7-1185G7).
Also, in this exact laptop line, Lenovo lists these as the same class of 11th-gen chips (all 4 cores / 8 threads) with mostly clocks/cache differences.
And more broadly, "i5 is bad" as a blanket statement is misleading anyway. A newer i3-N305 can beat an older desktop i7-7700 on PassMark (9,582 vs 8,637), so the badge alone isn't a professional way to judge performance.
For this T14 Gen 2 config (16GB RAM + SSD), the CPU is not the weak link for "web browsing/school/Office" or even plenty of heavier multitasking. The practical longevity factors are more like battery health, thermals, RAM/SSD capacity, and overall condition - not the i5 label.

I would like to hear your comments about the warranty with this product if you buy it through Ebay Newegg Store instead of thru Newegg.com. Newegg.com is offering three months warranty with the manufacturer (Lenovo, I presume) and an optional $29 purchase for a one yr. extra protection plan with Likewize. For $5 more, buy the same laptop thru their Ebay store and get a 1 yr. Allstate insurance, but you lose the manufacturer's three month warranty. Which one would you use and why?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/29788845...SwhVxpUsY4
TIA for your suggestions. The 30 day grace period to return the item to Newegg is the same in both scenarios.

In my experience with refurbishers, unless Lenovo is the one selling the machine, it's usually the refurbisher providing the warranty service. Not to say that they're necessarily bad (I did have one that failed to fix an obvious problem with the fan, but swapped out the screen for a higher-res model in the course of fixing another issue, so I just replaced the fan myself (easy enough on these).
I don't have experience with the Allstate warranty, so I can't say how good or bad it is. I gather that Newegg has, for the moment, greatly improved the RMA experience after the PR black eye they earned themselves in previous years.

Thanks for the info. The chat rep from Newegg said that Lenovo would provide the extra two months of warranty, but I will contact Newegg on Monday and reconfirm what they told me. My other concern is with the statement that Allstate insurance is only for US residents. I have a residency in Florida, but it is temporary, not full-time. I am wondering if that condition would void my insurance.

Also, a non-replaceable battery, no touch screen, and runs either MacOS or a few rather estoteric distros of Linux.I've seen better deals than this one, but one of the advantages of a corporate laptop is usually replaceable parts
What are you talking about?! The battery is easy AF to replace on this model.

The company I work for uses the i7 T14s 32Gb 1Tb version. We have close to 4,000 of these.

Literally looking at one currently on my desk! Thee entire bottom of the laptop comes off with 5 screws. There are two screws that hold the battery in.

I was saying that the T14 has an easy to replace battery.

The user I was responding to said that people should buy a macbook instead and I was saying that the macbook does NOT have an easily replaceable battery. Thats what I was talking about. Please read first and reply second.

There are at least 3 Newegg Thinkpad deals floating right now through eBay and Newegg. T14 gen 1 AMD, T14 gen 1 intel, and T14 gen 2 intel. Looking to replace a broken Acer 10th gen intel with a near equivalent Thinkpad for web browsing and light application work. I will upgrade the RAM (if possible) and NVME myself. Which of the three would be best for this purpose if longevity, battery life, and upgrade ability are the key factors? It's not my only computer, so I'm looking for something for this purpose at a really good deal. Thanks.
