The Fire TV Stick 4K Max stands out for keeping Android based Fire TV OS support, including Developer Mode, Downloader, and sideloading through Apps from Unknown Sources. It also adds Wi Fi 6E and access to Amazon Luna games at no extra charge, which makes it appealing for streaming and casual gaming. The main drawbacks are Amazon's tighter control, with updates blocking third party launchers and reducing customization while the interface fills with ads. Promo pricing also appears account dependent, so the deal may not apply everywhere, making it a practical pick if those limits do not matter.
people who want a simple "turn it on and work" streaming box because they just want the Fire Stick to function without needing heavy customization.
buyers who want to side-load apps because this 4K Max model is described as Android-based and allows enabling Developer Options and "Apps from Unknown Sources."
people who want Developer Mode tools like Downloader because commenters say this model still allows Developer Mode and the Downloader app (unlike the 4K Select).
people who rely on third-party launchers or want customization because commenters report Amazon updates have reduced customization and can block ADB/third-party launchers, forcing the Amazon launcher with more ads.
users who depend on third-party apps that Fire TV restricts because one commenter stopped using Fire TV and switched to ONN after finding Fire TV restricts some third-party apps.
privacy-focused buyers who want to "own" their data because commenters express concern about Amazon control/snooping and suggest getting a different device if you value privacy.
buyers who want the same third-party app flexibility as older Android-based Fire TV because commenters warn that the newer Vega OS breaks that functionality (and they contrast it with Android-based versions).
people who tried to apply the $30 promo code and need it to work at checkout because at least one commenter reports the promo code could not be applied when they tried it.
Amazon updates can block ADB and third-party launchers, forcing the Amazon launcher instead. That reduces customization and adds more ads, so it is a downside if you want to run a custom launcher like Projectivy.
Yes. This 4K Max 2nd gen is still Android-based on Fire TV OS 8.1.4.9, so Developer Options, Apps from Unknown Sources, and the Downloader app still work. That makes it usable for third-party APKs, unlike the newer Vega OS-based 4K Select.
The deal is higher than a July 2025 price of $25. One account was eligible for the $30 promo price, but another attempt on 1/2/2026 returned "The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase."
Yes, Amazon Luna games are included at no additional charge, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was specifically mentioned as part of the offer. That makes the stick more appealing if you want casual cloud gaming alongside streaming.
I'm really curious why people would even want a Firestick anymore seeing how Amazon keeps updating them and killing customization. I've been using Google TV and been happy keeping my Projectivy launcher running consistently.
.. not to mention that the UI has become so heavily cluttered with ads.
Amazon Luna games if you are interested. For example, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is included at no additional charge on Luna. That's why I ordered mine even though I am happy with my Google TV.
Wow I didnt know Amazon have their own set of games like netflix. ill have to see if they come with subscription or prime or something. That might get me interested

Yes, they all are under amerzons control and snooping. They are actively used in identifying what you watch, and provide that info to any one who needs the info.
Get some thing else if you want to actually own the device and your data. I trust the china boxes more than the these guys. You say you don't care about side loading? fine, but do you value your privacy? Get a Apple box then because they seem to protect that. Skrewgle and amershawn are getting your info one way or the other..
BTW, I have owned every scamerzon box ever made except the 3rd gen cube. It took them years before we had a device that had more than 8gb storage (4 useable). It took years of complaining, and a lot of folks jumped on the max and cube models to get anything more than the 8gb. Now it is a curse if you are being monitored and reported. Just say No.. BTW this includes the screwgle tv os as well.
Some models of early ONN boxes are rootable and have custom firmware that you as a owner control so you dont have to go the china box route or you can get a Raspberry pi and put linage on it, but that requires a learning curve that seems ridicules, but that is where we are at today..
Are you trying to say "amazon"? what is "amerzons"? "scamerzon"?

"Amazon keeps updating them," is a bad thing?? Have no idea why I'd want to customize my Fire Stick. Just want to turn it on and have it work like most folks.
