Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

This is identical to the Black Friday deal they had this year.

Last years the mid-January sale was better than the Black Friday deal. At least for Home & Business edition, which was $95.99 - $20 + included a $10 credit

It can import brokerage (and other) 1099 forms via PDF. New this year.

You can also report consolidated short and long term capital gains, rather than all the individual transactions. The IRS receives a copy of the 1099B form anyway with all the details. (For covered shares where basis is reported to the IRS and no adjustments needed)

The answer is no, they can't import directly from your brokerage firm. If you have the documents on your computer in .pdf format, you can import them.

Also, you can't edit the actual forms in FreeTax, which I always have to do.

How does FREETAXUSA support itself? I mean nothing is free so how are they a cheaper option than TurboTax?

It's older than that. Plus, I really don't want to have a microsoft account for using my PC.
I run Win11 and don't have a Microsoft account to login to any of my PCs.

This is my annual comment to remind people that if they purchase the digital download of tax software, Amazon will apply any no rush shipping credits that you have on your account as they consider software an eligible digital purchase. For those of us not buying apps, ebooks or renting videos this can add up to a nice little discount.
As of last year Turbo Tax only offers a digital download version.

They are upfront with the fact that they make money off state tax filing, amendments, and other optional upgrades (deluxe support, pro support, audit defense, etc.)

As someone else posted, the 25% off Fidelity deal + 30% Chase deal = about the same as this upcoming deal. Example: Turbotax home & business = $96 + $10 credit from Costco today. If on 1/19 it drops $20, it would be $76 + $10 credit = $66 assuming you use the credit to file a state return. With the 25% fidelity deal, the price for the desktop version on turbotax website is $120 - $30 = $90. $90 - $27 Chase = $63. So I got the desktop version on turbotax website. This saves me from a reminder on 1/19.

The Chase offer has a max cashback of $20, so you technically are paying $70.
