Make sure to remove the speaker from your air tag if you are using it for anti theft.

There are a couple ways around this. One person made a case similar to this one except what it did was only applied power to the AirTag for say 10 minutes every 4 hours or something like that. This does make the tag less trackable of course, a nearby iPhone has to by in range during that 10 minutes for it to update the new location. By being "off" for such an extended time, it would no longer trigger the warning message on an iPhone that the tag was moving with you. The thief would also not be given the option of locating the AirTag with a sound alert. This also made it harder to track with any BLE listening app as it would only be powered and broadcasting about 4% of the time.
Edit: It's called the Undetectag and it turns off your AirTag for four hours, then turns it on for 1 hour on a loop. As a hacker myself, I don't like this preset pattern, it should be random. Here it is for those interested. https://undetectag.com/products/undetectag

I have these for some Airtags that are hard to access (hidden in cars/motorcycles) where size doesn't matter but having them last for an extended period is a huge benefit. They work great for that purpose, but it does destroy the weight/size of an Airtag for most uses.

That is clever. But it costs the same as getting the Chinese brand tags on Amazon every few years. This should close to $6 to make aense
Not sure I am following. Why would buying new fake airtags every few years be an alternative to this extended battery case?

Just for reference, the listing says these extend the Airtag battery life 14x. That's a lot of screwing around with Chinese tags. Thanks, but I'll do it once and forget about it

Oh, I just gotta hear your logic as why this should be "close to $6 to make sense". Do tell.

I returned these after being excited to use them. These require the AirTag to be opened and connected to the case's dummy battery, but there was no way to screw it in and the case was too large to properly hold down the AirTag itself for connection without additional steps like taping.
Sounds like user error...

Not to mention, replacement batteries are less than continuing to buy new, crappy, Chinese Airtag knockoffs.
