Many courses, often in parks: https://udisc.com/courses

This post could'nt be more ignorant. (sorry for the hyperbole). Disc golf courses are usually standalone courses completely separate from golf courses. And unlike golf, the barrier to entry is extremely low. Many if not, most courses are free, discs are cheap, and you can get nearly as much enjoyment if you suck compared to a seasoned pro

The starter set is trash but the individual disc at 2.99 each are actually playable

I see circles I upvote. Grab some discs and go average down your golf-related hobby budget... kind of. I have way too many discs and just bought new irons, but what are you going to do?

They just use regular golf courses. When golf courses aerate, since regular golfers can't use the green, they'll invite disc golfers for revenue.
It's a second-tier sport that will never gain recognition like regular golf.
You are incorrect on both counts. Great sport in which most courses are free. That's why more kids and younger people are now playing disc golf than regular golf, at least in areas where there are a lot of DG courses.

No golf courses in my area do this, cool concept tho. They're all about foot golf in my neck of the woods for additional revenue

I'm completely new to this sport - are there actual courses? Do they just use golf courses?
There are a ton of dedicated disc gold courses. I've played about 50. Usually they're in a community, county, or state park. Most of the ones I've played are mostly wooded. I've played at a few schools, both colleges and high schools. I have about 15 courses within 45 minutes. some are 9 hole, some are 18. There's even 2 beginner courses that are 6 hole. The best tool everyone uses is Udisc.com. They also have an app. Discs run between $10 and $25 each. There are drivers, putters, mid range. A new player could get away with a putter and 2 mid range discs. Playing is generally free with some of the top courses in the country requiring reservations and a small cost. There's also local leagues, tournaments, and a professional league PDGA. For less than $60, you could be into a new hobby.
All of that said, for $5 this set is mostly junk. The discs don't fly well. You could go on reddit and search for "disc golf starter set" and have some good recommendations.

Good stuff - not a lot by me despite being in a densely populated area, but I'll have to check one out, thanks!

I bought one of these sets at Marshalls on clearance for $8 to give to a friend who was trying it out for the first time. Are these up to the quality of typical disc golf discs? No. But do they work ok? Absolutely. In fact, they actually worked far better than I thought they would. These discs are made of a slicker and harder plastic which is most likely cheaper to produce.
If you don't want to invest a lot of money in the sport initially, these are just fine. If you decide that you like the sport you will most certainly want to upgrade your equipment. Innova makes a great starter set with 3 discs that goes for $21+. Individual discs will typically run from $8-$30 based on the type of plastic used, design, etc.
If you enjoy nature and parks, this is the perfect way to get some light hiking in, while playing a sport with friends. A typical 9 hole course will get you about 1 mile of walking and 18 holes 2-3 miles. Give it a try!

Most are in parks but there are some courses that share a course with a ball golf course or were designed on a defunct ball golf course. Most of the courses are free to play but the ones that are at ball golf courses usually have a small fee ($8-$10 approx). I have only played one course (in Vegas) that was on a Par 3 ball course and there weren't any issues. There was only one group playing ball golf so that may have helped.

I have to give this a shot. I took up golf this year in an attempt to find additional sports that I can play outdoors to get some fresh air and exercise, this looks like something else to add to the list. Shame that here in NYC there seems to be a shortage of these courses.
