I don't use hubs much but I got one of these for my tiny nuc. It has a power button and it doesn't come back on in the even of a power trip. You have to turn it on manually.

if only it had an ethernet port, this would be perfect!

At least a couple of user reviews say this device powers off and stay powered off anytime the PC is powered off or rebooted. This would be good for things that should stay off by default, but a pain for typical installations such as your main monitor or keyboard/mouse. Maybe that's why Amazon is showing it to be a frequently returned item.

Ugreen one is a dollar cheaper and has identical ports and functions. Ports are oriented differently on both so choose one that fits your topology. https://slickdeals.net/f/19035664
The Sabrent one looks like it has a much longer attached USB-C cord that might be worth the extra $1.

Would something like this let me hook up an Android phone and use it as a desktop PC? (like add a keyboard for word processing, mouse, output video to monitor, etc?
Yes, that's one use case.

Nice deal, but noted as a frequently returned item on Amazon. I'd be cautious if purchasing it for long term use.

"100W Power Delivery input...."delivers up to 80W"
So the power 'delivery' is actually (up to) 80 watts? Poor translation or purposely deceptive wording, we'll never know Wink
The other 20W is distributed to power the USB ports and HDMI encoder...

Do you think these things run without power?

Not super tech savvy. Would
This work like a docking station to connect a laptop and couple of monitors? My new job didn't provide one for home use.

I believe you can only connect 1 monitor to this via the HDMI connect. It doesn't appear to be multi-display capable.

Thanks. I tend to see products like these on SD and not quite what I have at work, which goes for something like $140

"100w power delivery" normally means 100 watts power delivered via the USB C out not spread out over umpteen other ports (which likely will draw more than 20w if more than one is used, thus the "up to 80w" bringing down the "delivered" even further below the stated 80 watt max. Heck, many laptops won't even take a charge during use with "up to" 80 watts so knowing actual OUTPUT is super duper important my guy....not a round 'bout kinda guess.

Not to mention, "dEliVeRy InPuT" doesn't exist....unless you think you can deliver something before it comes in?

And lets not even talk about the power loss you clearly aren't taking into account...unless you think this is the first 100% efficient device on the planet?

What HDMI do you think is being "encoded?"

(your snark....3x)

If the laptop has an HDMI port, then you could use one HDMI on laptop and one HDMI on the dock.

My office provides a Dell D6000 dock that is similar to this one, and it works with my work laptop, home mini-PC, and (Android) Samsung Galaxy S24 phone (DeX mode). Lower end Samsung models like Galaxy A15 can use the hub for peripherals like phone and keyboard, but they don't support HDMI. Higher end models like S24 can use HDMI over USB.

It may not matter to most people, but the refresh rate on almost every USB dock is limited to 60 Hz. If I connect my mini-PC to my monitor directly via DisplayPort, I get 165 Hz. My dock has 1 Gbps Ethernet, but one day I'd like to upgrade to 2.5 Gbps.

On a more practical level, I wish docks had way more USB-A ports, but I got a cheap 7-port USB-A hub to power three USB lights, watch charger, and earbud charger. However, I still need USB-A ports for keyboard, mouse, webcam, and printer.

This is not a powered USB HUB. You have to use powered USB HUB if you don't want to lose your data.
