7 quarts! Nice. I have the 6 quart proline. I bought it refurbished over 10 years ago. Once it fell to the floor and not a scratch to be found. 280 is solid price for something you will pass to your kids.

500 watts for 7 qts, a bit wimpy. My 7 qt Cuisinart is 1000 watts. My Cuisinart isn't really as pretty though.

I'd imagine the floor lost against the mixer.

It is probably the same motor. The only change maybe wider paddle and bowl. I have the KitchenAid Commercial 5qrt 425w and Pro 6qrt 590w. The last time I took apart changed grease and found out they have exactly the same motor part number and gears are identical.

Certainly possible, I'm just going off of Kitchenaid's published specs. I will admit, I don't make enough bread to really test the power of any mixer.
Now blenders on the other hand...

I have this mixer (refurbished), received as a gift, and I've been quite impressed with it so far, especially compared to an older basic KitchenAid model. I've mixed large batches of bread dough, and it's handled them without issue.

My only real complaint is that I can't get the bowl adjusted high enough for the attachments to just touch the bottom, as recommended. I'm planning to try a kit from Mr. Mixer to address that. It would also be nice if it came with a paddle that has spatula fins.

One thing I really appreciate, maybe standard on newer mixers but new to me, is the safety behavior when plugging it in. If the speed lever is already pushed forward, it won't start until you move it back to "off" and then forward again. We store ours in another room, and it's easy to bump the lever while moving it. Our old mixer would start immediately when plugged in; this one doesn't, which I really appreciate, especially with young kids who like to help and may have hands where they shouldn't be when it's first plugged in.

TL;DR: Solid mixer that handles big dough batches well, safer plug-in behavior than older basic models, minor bowl-height adjustment issue, at-least on mine (fixable), overall very happy with it.

This one doesn't have the screw adjustment for height/depth at the hinge that their Classic model does?

And what does "TL;DR:" mean? Thanks in advance :-)

Don't know how young you are, but I remember when EVERYone had a counter top all-in-one bread maker. They definitely had wimpy motors. I just returned a Classic that was on sale for $200 the day after Christmas. Now that was a weak motor; but it was also defective. Grinding, noisy motor that topped out at the "8" setting. It wouldn't properly whip egg whites for meringue and bogged down with the strain of 4 egg whites!

It does have the adjustment for height, it's just that on the particular one I have, I have adjusted it all the way up and it's still not high enough to get it just right.

TL;DR is "too long; didn't read" in case no one wanted to read through my paragraphs of information.

Customer service for the KitchenAid eBay is horrible. Hope you all have smoother experiences than I, because I'm still waiting on my order that supposed to "arrive by Christmas."

Going off memory, the KSM70 got an all metal more robust gearbox compared to prior ac motor options, but now has an AC motor. The now defunct proline model had a DC motor and all metal gearbox. The proline 7 was essentially the same as the commercial 8 aside from the slightly larger bowl capacity of the 8, stainless attachments included, and NSF certification.

I have both the old proline and an older tilt head with an ac motor. Very big difference in quality of sound and handling of stiffer dough, particularly at lower speeds. If you have the money, it goes without saying that the commercial 8 is a more robust product with a better motor, but this is less than half the price and will serve you well. It will just scream a little more while doing it. Commercial 8 can be found at Costco business centers usually, but I want to say it's like $600ish??? If you don't have money to burn, get this one. If it ever goes bad and you're out of warranty, you can still get another and spend less than what you would on the commercial line. I do love that DC motor though. 😂

I think I have the same 6 qt pro - it has a tulip shaped mixing bowl

As have24 says, there is an adjustment screw. It is easily accessible on the stand behind the bowl once you move the lift mechanism out of the way. Flathead screwdriver is all you need... or a coin or something.

We had one of the older Kitchenaids with an AC motor . That model was nicknamed banshee and was worthy of the name. When it needed repairs we decide to upgrade to the proline 7 quart DC model. Wow what a difference, the machine is simply a joy to use. If I had to buy a unit today I would buy the Commercial 8 quart. Simply for the noise reduction.

If you do have an older unit it is possible to swap out to a DC motor, but costs a bit more than I would like.
